I have never been good at landscaping in New Leaf and now that we have even more options to decorate our town in New Horizons I feel a little bit overwhelmed. :( So I think it would be helpful for others who feel the same way as me to hear what you guys are planning to do with your islands.

Once you will be able to terraform will you move all the shops/villagers houses or are you content with where you put them for the most part? If you want to move them afterwards how are you going to decide where to move them?

Which outdoor areas do you have in mind and where do you plan on putting them?

How do you get inspiration/ideas for your island?

Do you have any tips/advice you would like to share on decorating and designing your island?

i plan on moving most of my buildings - i’m not quite sure yet as i want to get my path laid down first but once i have that down, then i’ll focus on relocating buildings

i don’t have much in terms of outdoor ideas? uh,, i have some beach landscaping going on like a campfire behind the campsite, a palm tree lamp forest with beach towels/balls/etc and actual palm trees near where the lighthouse is but that’s as much as i’ve got so far. i have the campsite with the campsite sign from pc and i plan on redoing the area a bit once i have the terraform permit as my campsite doesn’t quite fit where i want it to be. i also plan on having a lil shopping district up on the cliffs with some cedar trees and stuff lol - i also have a couple other ideas but i haven’t really figured it all out yet lol

i came up with my theme all by myself but i looked at acnl room/landscape photos and general photography that fits my theme to try and get ideas - i also thought about everything i couldn’t do in new leaf that i can now do in new horizons

uhm,, my only piece of advice would be don’t get discouraged - it’s easy to feel lacklustre compared to other people’s ideas but at the end of the day, it’s not a competition and as long as you’re happy with your island, then that’s all that matters c:

I don't like the way my river is dividing my town right now, which is making it kind of difficult to figure out where to put the buildings. Then I thought of an idea today that might help:

I think I'm going to temporarily move all villager houses to the beach.

That way, when I unlock terraforming, I can focus on shaping the land and rivers, without interference from the villager houses. Since the beach can't be modified anyway, I figured that would be the best place to stash them.

So far the highest level is going to be all the shops, middle level is going to be parks, benches, etc. and the lowest is going to be the residents' houses. I want to do something similar with my New Leaf/Wild World towns and do a half modern/half natural sorta town.

ill probably move most of my buildings. my island is a little cramped rn since when i placed most of my houses i didnt have a vaulting pole or ladder, so a lot of buildings are on one part of the island. i want to space them out more. bridge locations and scenery help me decide where to put things.

i want to have a beach area w/ beach chairs and a bonfire kind of thing, and a picnic area with flowers and trees around a clearing... ill probably make one of the smaller parts of my island surrounded by the river a bamboo forest. just things that are good for photo ops :D

most of my inspiration is just things i want in real life + pictures of other peoples designs i like. i follow some new leaf blogs on tumblr with very cute towns.

just keep in mind that pretty much nothing in this game is permanent! if you dont quite like how something turned out you can change it as much as you want and as many times as you want. try lots of things out and see what you love!

Hm I'm not sure if I'll move buildings but I might change my river a little or add more ponds if that's an option.

I'm not entirely sure about everything I'm doing yet but I have a few ideas so far. I think I want to make a little amusement park type of area with things like the teacup rides on the highest level. I might make a beach area with all the stone furniture like the stone arch and moai statue and some bonfires. I plan on making various fenced in garden areas around my island as well. I want my island vibe to be mostly natural and overgrown but still have some more developed areas like a cliff-top amusement park.

I have three rivers going through my town, and I'm gonna cut out the biggest one to make more room for stuff. And I'm definitely gonna move my museum, nookling store, and tailor shop in a different area to make a shopping district. I want an orchard too on another level, with a flower patch above that. Lastly, I'm working on turning my beach into a big hang out spot. Those are my biggest focuses.

I'm just going to play it by ear. Right now I am putting all the new animals across the river in their own little village. All the shops are lined up with Resident Services on my side of the river. And, I am adding bridges and ramps where I think they need to go. I have no overall vision for my island, but I am having fun just adding things little by little.

I want my town to be very woodsy with a park right outside my house.
The villager's houses will be in a neighborhood type thing. Idk if I want bridges because once you unlock terraforming, you can make your own with that I think.
That's all I got so far. c:

I have sort of run out of ideas and I still have a a lot of space. Maybe my fault because I put all my homes and shops by the airport but dang is it convenient.
I was going for this elegant theme. Turned into fairytale theme. Dont have enough of any of those things.
I flattened about 95% of my town because I had about 5 cliffs and I'm not paying to make ramps lol.

I've got a maze area. A money shrine I broke apart. A spa area. And a bamboo area. But a the areas are pretty small.
I even added a flower area too.
