I like that we have two light settings in our homes (three if you include ‘off’ as a light setting) but I do wish there were more since at night the incandescent one makes things look too orange and the fluorescent one makes things look too green and then of course having them off is too dark.
In NH, furniture like lamps cast a little light (emphasis on a little). It does an amazing job setting a cozy mood and looks really pretty but it pretty much leaves you with only two light settings for your rooms.
In New Leaf lamps actually lit up the whole room and depending what color the lamp cast, it would change the lighting of the entire room. This was useful because your house only had one color light. It was cool, but could be annoying if you just wanted the lamp for aesthetic purposes and instead of being a small ambient light, it would illuminate your entire room very brightly.
I think I like how they changed the lighting effect of lamps in NH but I wish they allowed more light colors for the inside of your house.

I use the warm lighting in every room. The other is too blue/green for my taste. Speaking of the colored lights in NL, I also miss how the differently colored lights would be shown in the windows when you were outside your house. It was a little detail but it looked really cool, especially with some of the more unique house styles (castle, modern, etc.) and the exteriors (like the mermaid one).

I gotta agree with this, I like NH's lighting system better compared to all the other games, however some more options would be nice because neither of the two in game are "perfect" to me. I much prefer the warm lighting setting though, the other one reminds me too much of LED lights

I like the warm toned light setting much better than cool toned light. It gives my home a very cozy and natural feel.

I don’t spend that much time in my house in the game, and don’t usually remember to visit houses in dreams either, so I don’t think I notice as many details as some.

I think it’s a good thing to add but for me, I never change it. I prefer the default one.

I leave the lights pretty much off for most rooms, I wanna see all the glowing and moving stuff, like the Mermaid Wall and the Underwater Wall. Otherwise, I have it on the lowest setting, I do appreciate it's easy to use and doesn't have to be the same between rooms.

I hate the lighting indoors 😭
I’m just having a really hard time with them. I like darker wallpapers, and lighting is too difficult to work with. It’s either too light, or complete darkness. There is no in between. I also don’t like the cool tone.
I remember in new leaf, if it was too dark, I could add lamps and candles around and I could get the lighting exactly how I wanted it. Unfortunately right now, even if you add more lighting in the room in new horizons, it doesn’t actually light up the room. It takes some getting used to.

I wish there was like a custom feature where you can switch the colors of the light in your home. That would make it so cool, but yeah how I feel about them is that they are too limited.

I was just thinking about that the other day! I really miss all the variety of light colors all the different lamps provided. It would be cool to have custom lightbulbs or something, colored lighting really adds to an atmosphere.

Yeah I really wish there were more indoor lighting options now that lamps don't really do anything. I have 9 lamps in my basement to give it a relaxing mood but it just looks dark and dingy. If I turn the light on it's too bright. I'd love an in-between option.

Also I've never even come close to using the blueish light, even when I was making scenes that were supposed to be cold-looking. I don't know why but it looks really unnatural to me, like creepy laboratory lighting or something lol.

I use the fist option. The other two are to bright...

In New Leaf, i used to turn off the lights and use lamps instead, just to give some vibe to the room. Sad to read that the lamps don't do that with the rooms anymore...

I’m not a fan of the indoor lighting. For the main room I use the warm lighting but I like to play during the day and and for the most part I keep the lights off or use the lamp lighting, which isn’t very obvious at times. My basement lights are always off because I designed it like a cluttered storage basement with lots of boxes and forgotten miscellaneous seasonal items. The only light source is a pin ball machine and a fish tank haha.

Admittedly I never paid much attention to the lighting. The default worked fine. As long as I could see where I was going, I didn't feel the need to experiment with lighting. But, on occasion, I have turned off the room light just to enjoy the natural sunlight that comes in through the windows. It's beautiful.

I honestly never paid attention to the lighting. I don’t spend time in any of my houses at all since none are decorated fully or at all. I have spent a lot of time at Harv’s Studio and I usually use the brightest light or no light at all.

I use the brightest lighting for my rooms. I don’t like the middle one. I wish there were more options for lighting in New Horizons. I think New Leaf had more options when it came to interior lighting.

Like my feelings on NH in general, kinda complicated?

I like the fact you've got both the reddish kind of light you had with the light switch in NL, as well as the bright flat lighting you'd get from lights in pre-NL games... but because lamps work like they do in HHD and work as short-range light sources like they would in real life, you don't have the more varied shades, like the green-gold lighting you'd get from the small spotlight, exotic lamp or gold house model that I used all the time in NL (as it was the nicest light available, given the other lights had the same issue even then.)

They're also shorter-range than they'd be in real life, which means you need multiple lamps to light up a room at night, and the wall-mounted spotlights in particular aren't as powerful as I'd like them to be.

However, this also means you can do lots of things with atmospheric lighting in-game, and that’s really nice when the situation calls for it.

When ceiling furniture stops being a little line in the game’s code and starts being an actual thing, I hope that it gives more varied light so that I don’t have to use the basic lights in the game.

House lighting I just use the default one. Unless I wanna make a creepy image

I wish there was a darker shade, or the dark shade was much darker. It would really enhance my movies. It's just, not dark enough. It doesnt even look dark.

But I'm fine with it, I'd just like a darker option, then we have
