Seeing how grass doesn't deteriorate in New Leaf (Or so I heard) I'll probably just go without paths.
You could always just create a new character solely for patterns. I may do that.

Grass deterioration does occur in New Leaf. However, it takes much longer for the grass to deteriorate and it gross back sooner. I will be paving my main road so that I don't have to worry too much about the grass, and also because I think that it would be a cute idea
I still don't know which main path design I will use, but these are my favorites:

I will also be using some of these, but not as my main path:

http://merongcrossing.tumblr.com/post/47116571143 I'm gonna try to work with this one because I'm loving the idea of bushes all lined up like that. It reminds me of this one hotel I vacationed in right off the shore of the beach. I was in love with it and when I saw this whole setup it made me nostalgic and I just have to do my town that way.
