What makes your favorite villagers your favorite villagers?

So this is my first Animal Crossing game and I see people talking about their "dreamies" and buying their favorite villagers. So I have to ask, what makes your favorite villagers your favorite villagers? Who are they and why do you like them? How do I decide who I want to get on my island?

I'm not sure if there is more variety with the villagers in this game than from new leaf, but on that game, you had 8 different personality types, and that determined the different type of dialogue you got. If you had 2 peppy villagers, they were both going to basically say the same things (maybe using different keywords). So it all came down to appearance. I went through and chose a favorite or two from each personality type based on how they looked. For example, Mitzi is my favorite normal villager because I'm personally quite fond of siamese cats.

Well, for me it depends on looks and how attached i ended up getting to them. For example, my all time favorite villager is O'Hare, because he's cute and because in my old town he was the first villager to move in, AND the first villager I befriended (this was on acnl.) I still love him to this day. So yeah, for me it's on looks and nostalgia with certain ones and stuff

• lolly is one of my favourites not just because of her design but because when i had her in my new leaf town, she was an absolute sweetheart. her house was right next to mine and i loved seeing her first-thing everyday <33

• beau is one of my favourites because i adored him even before i had new leaf so he’s sentimental to me aha

• skye is one of my favourites because she was the first camper i ever had in new leaf and also she’s absolutely gorgeous

• audie is one of my favourites because she’s so unique; she’s the first peppy wolf and was also named after the grandma who put in 3500+ hours in new leaf - plus, she’s so gorgeous ;u;

I guess its the aesthetics of their looks. In this game I'm playing it somewhat chill. I don't really have a set of dreamies. I have two towns in new leaf with all dreamies but I didn't want a mix of them back for new horizons. I wanted to try out different ones or dreamies I also wanted but never made the cut. but really its all about how they look to me.

They're my favorite because they share a birthday or name with someone in my immediate family. I'm starting with Stitches because he shares my mom's birthday. My second will be Molly, because she shares my mom's name.

some is aesthetic, some is personality; its kind of some combination of the two. Derwin I love because in NL he was so nice and had an adorable personality. His design wasn't my favorite, but he's still one of my favorite villagers. Bluebear I really like her design and since she was peppy she was always really upbeat and excited, haha

my favorites are my favorites for a combination of things. usually its their appearance, their personality, and if they will fit with my island's aesthetic or not. but there's an exception to that; stitches definitely doesnt match the direction id like my island to go in but im inviting him regardless of that.

when i choose my villagers i usually pick a "favorite" from one (i dont rly like uchi villagers but i still have 1 or 2 that id be content to have) personality type and theyre the villager i will hunt after in that category. i like to have one of every personality so there's variety in my villagers, but since there's 10 at least 1 personality type will have to repeat. since i only have 8 dream villagers, i like to keep the last 2 open for move-ins so i can kinda help out in the "villager economy" and at the same time experience more villagers (something i didnt do in new leaf). i plan to keep these 2 villagers on the main area of my island with the shops but away from the rest of the villagers, so if someone came over to adopt them it'd be easy for them to get to their house.

Angus. I really can't wait to kick out Marshal (he showed up first in my campsite so I had to let him in), and I HATE Skye.

My favorite villager is Stitches and that's mainly due to nostlagia. I loved him so much in Wild World, I don't even remember any other villager I had back in the day.

For the others it's usually looks and appearance. Certain attitudes just work better with certain design choices.

Wolfgang is my favorite. i love his personality, his house, his appearance, his name. he was in my first NL town and i’ve loved him ever since. i’m hoping one day i find him in NH

I don't think I have a #1 exactly, but Merengue is definitely top 3 and its a perfect match because I loooove desserts, and shes just so freaking cute.
