With the 2.0 update now out and New Horizons pretty much done content wise, I thought it'd be fun to discuss other features you would've liked to see return in New Horizons that unfortunately did not make the cut. (I apologize if this is an already discussed topic, I'm new to these forums).

Here's some of mine:
  • Nook's Cranny Upgrades: This is one of those glaring omissions that I'm sure a lot of people thought about. It isn't a huge deal, but it's definitely a feature that myself and others looked forward to completing as they progressed through the game. Seeing the shop slowly become bigger and holding more items, and then eventually, having additional floors.
  • Post Office in the Airport: If the airport got a slight extension to the right, I'd imagine Pelly and Phyllis could set up shop there! Mailing would be a little less quick because of the dialogue, but I think it'd add to that community charm that the game was lacking from for the longest time. Pete could even wander around your island while occasionally delivering mail.
  • Tropical Fruits on Kapp'n's Tours: This is a no-brainer I saw a lot of people discussing. And it would be especially great because of all the potential cooking recipes introduced with 2.0! If you're unaware, I'm talking about bananas, persimmons, durians, lychees, mangos, and grapes. Maybe even the return of perfect fruit for special recipes...
That's just off the top of my head, but I'd love to hear some thoughts!

hard YES to all of these! especially a nook’s cranny upgrade. I wish they would have brought back minigames, and allowed storage throughout multiple islands (like in NL!)

I would really enjoy the NL style mannequins so we can dress them up and display. They are in the game's coding because the Able Sisters have them. If they were in, I could dress them in the Mario clothes. Ideally, the NL mannequins would be a DIY using stones and iron ore.

Oooo yes I would love for all of these, especially a Nook's Cranny upgrade! As for me, it's not so much of a "feature" in-game, but I wish islands weren't switch-locked. I wanted to have multiple islands to decorate without having to pay for another switch 🥲

In order (top most desired)
‐--------------------------------------------
Adjusting home room sizes

Bringing Gracie back with her new and old furniture sets made for housing

Nook's cranny upgrade

Bringing back more npc without amiibo.
Examples: Gracie at Harv's island, Chip/Nat at fishing tournament/bug off, holiday npcs at roost around holiday like Blanca on April fools.

I still miss:

Tropical fruits
Wisp's wonderlamp
Zelda items
Gracie items
And any welcome amiibo items

Omg i just realized i am too greedy.

my big two are easily the post office and the mini-game island. i'm still baffled by the decision to replace the pelicans with a lame card-stand. it isn't even a QOL improvement or a streamlined feature since it takes longer to send multiple letters with it. i would've preferred if it had been, like, stage one of the post office, and then after sending x amount of letters or visiting x amount of islands, you could find orville thinking one day and he would mention the idea of opening up a post office on the right to accommodate for all the mail they've been juggling recently. then you could get a small gift shop/post office hybrid integrated with the airport along with the re-introduction of the post office rewards from NL. (in that game they were for saving x amount of bells, but it would be easy to repurpose them for sending x amount of letters.) would've been so cool imo.

the mini-game island is self explanatory. multiplayer is dead in NH, not that it ever really had a pulse to begin with. i excitedly thought that's what kapp'n was being reintroduced for during the direct, but that ended up not being the case unfortunately. i miss playing games both solo and with strangers. (i didn't really have friends who played AC.)

other than that, just. the clothes? i really miss the thick glasses and hair-bow wig specifically (the former especially since they're like my glasses irl) but there's a lot of other cute stuff that didn't make the cut. even with the 2.0 update, very little clothing was added -- especially in comparison to furniture. it feels like they went above and beyond with that and only gave clothing a cursory glance, which kind of sucks.

  • Amiibo Method
  • Bananas
  • Unbreakable Tools
  • A place for the new furniture to spawn daily (Nook Upgrade)

    Thoughts:
I prefer New Leaf's Amiibo method rather than New Horizons. Maybe they felt like New Leaf's method made it too easy and I can agree with that, but New Horizons made it too drawn out in my opinion.
Bananas. Not every fruit needs to be included in every game, but considering New Horizons has the focus of an Island paradise... why have coconuts and not bananas? Mangos would have also been nice, but the absence of bananas really stands out in a game like this. Kids and adults are familiar with bananas where mangos may not be as familiar.
An unbreakable tool set would have been super nice. And I feel like it would give more purpose to the gold. I actually never really used the gold because I felt like the standard was more handy.
Having an additional floor for Nooks Cranny would have been helpful with all the new items added. I suppose it may be another motivation to buy the dlc for some people. However the additional floor could have been a basement... which wouldn't really require a revamp of the exterior and they could have increased the cost of moving the building.

    Comments:

I don't care about the post office stuff. I mean it was nice in new leaf, but to have a creature taking care of the mail instead of the postcard stand, it would just be Orville doing it and having extra dialog instead of just doing your thing with the postcard stand.
I would have preferred the Roost being it's own building but I suppose for how fancy the Museum is, maybe it should be a "central hub" beside resident services. It does feel awkward not having something on the opposite side in the Museum, like a gyroid exhibit or something with Celeste.

I felt this way at first too.
But im used to the way it looks now.

And if you think about it from an actual floor plans point of view, the bug section and the fossil section are rather flat so having something built on top of them makes sense.

But the aquarium side, has that huge area with 3 stair cases in. So I would imagine that that area fills all of the right side of the museum so that there is nowhere a room on the other side would fit.

So it actually makes more sense to not have a room there than it does to have a room there.

Of course it's a video game so to what extent things need to make sense is up for debate.
Especially since the outside of the museum is like 3 tiles deep.

The mini games and the Nook Upgrade is the main one for me. But I also miss the train station and town hall remodeling. I designed my town to match in with the look of Resident Services but it's still a shame that everyone has to have the same building.

My #1 desires are Gracie and her items, plus the return of the other licensed villagers. I specifically want Felyne, but I think people would enjoy it if the Splatoon and Zelda villagers came back. I'd definitely like those items too.

I agree with the others that unbreakable tools would be nice. Gold tools should've been unbreakable from the start. With gold nuggets so hard to find, it feels dumb and frustrating that they break. I made 1 of each gold tool for the Nook Miles goals, but I don't plan to waste my gold nuggets by making gold tools ever again with the exception of maybe the gold watering can, since it actually does something unique.

I personally consider a Nook's Cranny upgrade (unless it adds more functionality, which feels less necessary with Harv's island), mini-games, tropical fruits, more crops, and perfect fruit very low priority myself.

If I could add one more thing, it would be giving Celeste a permanent job across from the Roost, whether it be her observatory or a gift shop.

That's a good point about the aquarium side. This makes me feel better honestly lol thank you for pointing that out. It very well may have been the developer's thought too.

Outside of the hundreds of things you could do for QOL:

1. Nooks Cranny upgrade. The current one is small and ugly....and old.
2. Bigger rooms. 6x6 is cramped and limits creativity. Really, I'd love 7x7 or 8x8. This one might be QOL, but I'll list it always.
3. A city. Harv's island is nice, don't get me wrong, but it's not the same thing, especially when stock is only updated once a week, and no villagers visit it. I think HHP helps though since it does have facilities.

With 2.0.0 being the last "update", I know #3 is never ever going to happen. I think Nintendo could fit #1 and #2 in possibly if they wanted to.
My mind is blank, so I can't think of anything else, if there is anything else..

HHP made a few of my dreams come true more or less.

ordered by the first ones that came to mind, then some i agreed with or remembered while reading other responses :)
  • special tree stumps. i loved the little designs on them so much and i miss them.
  • would love to see gracie and her sets return. and on the topic of specific furniture sets, pleaseee can i have rococo back <3 i liked that one a lot.
  • tropical fruits like you said, but also perfect fruits! i thought they were cute, and i loved how you could shake the trees until they died, made for some really good atmosphere to have dead trees everywhere.
  • island tours/minigames to play with friends, and even the little games you could play in NL on the DS and WiiU items (i believe it was those). i thought they were fun. we need more multiplayer options.
  • zelda villagers/items 🥺
  • unbreakable gold tools. when i realized the gold tools could still break it just didn't feel worth it to me.
  • i agree that the return of the post office and a place in the museum for celeste would bring even more life to the game.
  • bigger rooms in your house..... please.......... all the side rooms are too small 😭
  • literally anything that can tell you the weather forecast, like the one PWP in NL that would give you the weather for the next hour. though in NH i think it'd be more like... a nook phone app lol
  • also like roxasfan said, bulk crafting. and being able to access items in your storage directly from a crafting table if you're in your house. and being able to choose a customization option as you craft so you don't have to exit and enter the new menu. and speaking of bulk...... being able to buy bulks greater than 5. please. i hate buying customization kits bc i have to do it like 10 times to get a significant amount.

The most important things to me here would be a Nook's Cranny upgrade, or actually a few more of them. I also would like Gracie to come back and it would have been nice for more buildings on the main island, like Brewster getting his own shop. I see others are mentioning bulk crafting and unbreakable tools as well. Those would definitely be nice! While the game may not have everything from past games, I'm still enjoying it every day and looking forward to the next installments of the game in the years to come!
