okay, so at 12am this morning/last night?? I won an auction for Beau and the person was ready for me to pick him up. I had to go to sleep but I was going to get him as soon as I woke up.
I went on this person's profile and I saw something that seemed suspicious so I nosed in a bit.
It turned out this person had sold Beau to another person without telling me, starting a new auction four hours after I went to bed.

It sucks, but I don't hold grudges. I just want to know, what should I do to warn others that this guy may bail on them?

Negative rating. The rule "you never Wi-Fi'ed with them" doesn't apply in this case. Auction rules state that you are obligated to completely follow through with an auction unless there is valid reasoning. I doubt he has valid reasoning, so unless the auctioneer had put up a pickup rule, just put a -1 on his Wi-Fi page and be done with it. If he revenge rates, PM a mod.

I did go to sleep, yes.
He put the new auction up four hours after I won.

So then you didn't tell him you were going to sleep? Sometimes people will wait a certain period of time after an auction to do it again since they have to get out the villager ASAP (if they don't time travel, especially). Since you logged off without telling them you'd pick them up when you woke up, maybe they just assumed you weren't coming back--I've seen that happen. I'd have to see their rules to make a fair judgement.

There were none. All it said was buyout and what the ending time was.

Did he warn you that he was going to auction him off again?

No, he said nothing. I checked his page to leave him a VM and saw a VM from another user asking about Beau. I checked the new auction he did and he had no rules there either.

I'd say you leaving him a negative waiting would've been fine, if you let him know you would be going to sleep. However, since you didn't do that, I think it's safe to assume he thought you bailed. He messed up for not putting a time limit on holding a villager, or specifying if the winner needs to pick up soon after winning. But you also didn't let him know you were going off. I think maybe next time you enter an auction you should ask how long they can hold the villager for, and if you're going to leave, let them know you're going. Not saying you're in the wrong here, just saying when it comes to autions, it's better to be safe than sorry. :)
The whole situation seems to be a big misunderstanding to me.

It sounds like a misunderstanding. I'd try and talk it over with him before rating because it's easier to get it resolved peacefully than dig around and ask for a wifi rating fix.
