Lots of talk happening since the start of the month with the rumored 4K "Pro" Nintendo Switch that would upscale its 1080p native resolution to 4K thanks to its dock.

I also used a ML enabled software to get this screenshot scaled up to 4K resolution. See what Animal Crossing: New Horizons would look like in 4K. Enjoy !

EDIT : I'm already kind of enjoying Animal Crossing in 4K on my 4K Samsung QLED TV. It upscales (interpolates) the Nintendo Switch image to 4K and smoothen the framerate to something akin to 60 fps. I never noticed it until I moved my Nintendo Switch dock to another (older) 1080p TV in my house. The framerate shown on screen was what the console was outputting, and that was noticeable right off the bat. So my angle here is, if you have a 4K TV that already upscales the Nintendo Switch's signal and improves its framerate, you already have the experience of the Nintendo Switch "Pro".

Wow thank you for this post! I plan to get a new TV this year and knowing that a Samsung one will do this is good to know since that's what I currently have and I love it. Also, the video and image beautiful on my laptop's 4K screen. This makes me super antsy to get a new TV!

As someone who's pretty satisfied with 1080p (and for this reason, don't own a 4k tv), if I were interested on a new Switch, it would be for better performance alone (and also better internal storage). I mean, I play mostly games that were made when 240p and 480p were "hi-def" so 1080p is pretty good to me.

Don't own any 4K devices to see the better resolution (and also, aren't the textures made for 1080p anyway?) but the framerate being 60 is nice to see. Unfortunately 60fps games on the Switch tend to look worse because they suffer noticable framerate dips. A consistent 30 is better than an inconsistent 60.

Honestly, 4k is severely overrated. The real things that matter more is the framerate and the handling of polygons and special effects.

With a new switch, I'd hope more for the game to lag less in heavily decorated towns, and that some other special effects could be turned on to make the game look better, like antialiasing, etc.

The 60 fps is indeed more noticeable (and quite welcome !) than the 4K definition, since we usually don't play that close to the TV.

I already play on my 4K tv too! I'm not that well versed in image quality or anything, but there usually is a quality difference when I play on the TV versus hand held. I don't know if it's in my head but it feels smoother if that makes sense. I hope possibly an uptick in quality would mean we could take better quality screenshots as well. I'm finding lately that many screenshots I take don't have the resolution I expect, even when I use the actual card to transfer them to my computer. Not sure I'm in the market for a switch pro but it seems like many people would be into better quality!

This is really cool! Although, I'm one of the few folks on this Earth that is more than happy with 1080p. I know people want to keep seeing it being more and more smooth, but I would rather get the New Switch for better Joy-Cons (not counting on it) and better performance, and definitely better battery life (I still have the OG 2017 Switch whose battery is bleh).
