What would the theme of the next game be like? They have already played the roles of the player being the villager, the mayor, and the Representative, so what will be the next massive role for the player to do? What is more impressive than terraforming an island? What will the next game do that would make New Horizons look dated?

i have no specific ideas of what it's likely to be but i know what i'd want it to be. i'd love to be a mayor like in acnl again. i think now that terraforming has been introduced in acnh there's probably no going back and we'll probably retain a god level of control in the next game,,, but i honestly preferred the game before terraforming. i liked it when the land was how it was and you just had to work with it.
i think a vibe similar to acnl would be a nice return to the older days of gameplay for longtime players while also offering a new adventure for those who came to the series via nh.

It would be interesting if they sort of merged the open-ended gameplay of traditional AC games with the amenity-specific gameplay of Pocket Camp (and even the Happy Home “series”!)
Although honestly, I’d love to see the return of a central shopping district regardless!

I’ve said this before, but I would prefer the game’s main focus to not be crafting. I think having control of the game takes away from what Animal Crossing actually is. Personally, I liked just being the mayor in New Leaf, but I currently do not have high expectations for the next game.

I love Animal Crossing as a whole, but the game has gotten pretty stale. I pick up the game every once in a while, but it’s not nearly as much as I used to. I think little things like repetitive dialogue and nothing new being added can make the game boring. If the villagers had just a little more to say and if there were more furniture sets, I think that’d help bring some attention back to the game. New Horizons was a great game, but I think the crafting and terraforming aspect makes it seem too much like Minecraft, and not enough like the game we grew to love.

boring basically said exactly what i was going to lmao. i've been playing a copy of NL daily for the last year or so, and i do just much prefer the role of mayor over island rep. which... in essence are the same role, really, the latter just has updated perks, but essentially playing god isn't all that appealing to me. you could still keep being able to place furniture wherever outside, but with no terraforming so you have to work with the land you've got. that's a balance i think i would like. unfortunately, i realize terraforming is most likely here to stay, and that they might well try to top it with regards to creative freedom, though i don't know how. i would prefer if they veered hard back into life simulator rather than a decorating one, personally.

aside from making you into a deity LMAO I'm not sure there's more of an upgrade to mayor/representative, and I doubt people would be happy with less control

I would love if the title and position of mayor returned, it feels more cozy and town-like, although I understand why they chose 'representative' for a deserted island theme.

I think it will be the same as mayor/rep. Seems boring but mayor and island rep functioned the same so I think they would carry it to the next game. Hopefully there will be some urban aspects in the new game so maybe our role will be like the mayor in NL.
