Instead of working for Nook work at the City
Put all new Charcters in the city instead of Charcters that should come randomly
Customizing your charcter skin color and hair add glasses or choose eye color ( Some people might not get play with others cause of the color which is stupid so that was a good call Nintendo)
Grass does not wear away
People with friend codes can vist towns when the other is not playing

I would make it so flowers don't die if you run over them.
I would also add games like footraces with the villagers, and sports or something like that to make the game funner offline.

It will be nice if you can go swim in the summer with some villagers and in the winter, go skate in a frozen lake.
Edit: Oh yeah! Some random cameo appearance, like a Mario cameo or a CP.Falcon (that wrestling mask made me think of it...). It'll be nice to see them in litle version but I think it will ruin the animal thing.....
