I think next year or two we will finally get the next version of the Switch. There's not a lot personal I would like from it but heres a few of my ideas

-Add Bluetooth support for headphones
-60fps as a standard
-better eshop store
-just a slight graphical improvement
-lastly upgraded Joy Cons [I've gone through 2 joy cons and one pro controller with drift....]

Share away:)

i came here to say themes lol
but i'd never buy another switch unless mine broke and i was suddenly rich lol

I'd like a better battery?? I assume thats possible but I'm definitely not a tech person by any stretch of the imagination. But yeah, I mostly play handheld and it'd be rad if the handheld lasted more than a couple hours! I'd definitely buy an upgrade.
Also would really love wireless Bluetooth headphone support!

longer battery life in handheld mode! i play almost exclusively in handheld mode so this would be a huge improvement imo

Better joy-cons, that's literally all I'm asking at this point.

I just want it to be able to load my town without running like a PowerPoint slideshow...

Oh my god. This. I have an SSD on my computer, but not ALL of my games are on it. The ones that aren't, still load faster than AC does sometimes. It's mind boggling.

I agree 100% with everyone who says themes, but what I don't understand is why that can't be a thing that the switch updates itself to have? Is there a reason, anyone know??

I'm not really interested in a Switch upgrade because I don't want to fork out the cash for one. But, if one were to come out, a couple aspects I'd like:

- Improved graphical performance and power. I'm not someone who cares about graphics generally, but one of my favorite game series throughout life has been Mortal Kombat, despite its low points throughout its existence. The Switch port of Mortal Kombat 11 is...not great, especially The Krypt section which was just butchered. I would want an upgraded Switch to be able to run something like that smoothly and without humongous cutbacks. I guess that's something I could just get on a different system, but I've been Nintendo only for a number of years now. Even if we discount third parties like that, people have still mentioned New Horizons running slow sometimes. Better, faster, and stronger seems the way to go regardless.

- Quality control. The Switch has always felt like a dip in Nintendo quality compared to its predecessors. In the early days of the Switch, people were scratching the Switch screens despite being careful when just trying to put it back in the dock due to a design flaw. The JoyCons are infamously shoddy. I have decades old controllers for other consoles, but this component for the JoyCons is so junk that it lasts people like a year before they have to get it repaired or spend, what, $70 for new ones? Try your damnedest to ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen again.

Some other things I'd like addressed that don't necessitate an upgraded Switch:

- More character profile pictures. I'm not really happy with the selection they offer. It's too limited and doesn't include my favorite Nintendo franchise, Fire Emblem. I just kind of picked the clown girl from ARMS even though I don't play ARMS because she looked fun and any of the other ones I would've used like Twilight Princess Zelda were overused among my Switch friend group. I didn't even know the clown girl was named Lolla Pop and found out like ten seconds ago when I looked it up. There aren't even any profile picture options for stuff like Donkey Kong (there are two Donkey Kong pictures but not a lot for the series itself, moreso just tied to Mario), EarthBound, Kid Icarus or Pokémon, though the latter makes a bit of sense because there's probably rights issues. It feels really barren for as beloved as Nintendo franchises are and they could offer so many other options.

- Virtual Console. This won't happen, but from Day One I've never been happy with how they've handled older games on the Switch. Tying classic games to Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not only moneygrubbing but also inferior to the options we had before. The selection they offer doesn't interest me for the most part either. I would rather have the large libraries of games that we could browse on the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS with the option of purchasing the specific games we want and be able to keep them permanently. I don't enjoy the catered experience they offer and prefer the freedom we once knew.

I would definitely be open to a new/upgraded Nintendo Switch! I have an original one from launch with the bad battery, lol. I was really tempted to buy the Animal Crossing Switch because it would have the updated battery but I held back because I would feel really bummed if we did get a new Switch sometime soon that was even better.

I think it would be nice to have an updated Switch like how we got the New 3DS's! I remember it was quite a bit jump (at least for me personally) to go from my Pearl Pink 3DS to my New 3DS XL and I would love to do that again with the Switch. I really love the concept of the Switch and I'm not ready to let it go just yet.

I think that an upgraded console would definitely have to have a better battery and a better fan, I think? Maybe it's just because mines an older console but I feel like the fan is constantly on if I'm trying to play, say, Breath of The Wild. Or any game if I'm trying to charge the console at the same time. Improved graphics would always be welcome! I personally haven't found any games to be ugly but it would be nice if upgraded specs would help with the slowdown/lag we see in really busy Animal Crossing islands.

Better quality control for the joycons is a must! Especially if we see an improved Switch Lite. It's silly that for such an expensive console that we are still dealing with bad drift issues in the joycons. It's nice that we're able to buy different colours to customize our switch and whatnot but, at least here in Canada, they cost $100 which is already bad enough without the risk of getting a bad pair. The drift issue is what keeps me from picking up a Switch Lite and recommending the console to others. I primarily play in handheld mode (playing on the TV gives me motion sickness) so a Lite is the ideal version of the console for me but not while there's drift issues.

I'd love to see a better UI as well. I miss the themes from the 3DS but I also miss folders! I hate how on the Switch all my games are in a line. I like having my screen look neat and tidy and since they let us have folders and rearrange game icons on the 3DS why can't we do that with the Switch? It's especially frustrating since for whatever reason anytime we pop in a cartridge the game art just... stays on the Switch screen. Permanently. It makes it all cluttered and I don't like it, lol. Let me put them in folders, please.

It'd be nice if an updated console would also let us download a couple more apps! Since the Switch is advertised as a home console I'd love to be able to download Netflix on it and watch Netflix through my Switch. This one isn't as big on my list but if we're getting an updated console anyways I think it would be nice to see.

Edited to Add: If we do see a new Switch console though I really hope they include the chargers! It was ridiculous that the New 3DS consoles didn't include chargers in the box.

themes/wallpapers and the badge arcade. i loved these on the 3DS, and they made my home-screen so pretty. imagine my surprise and disappointment when i dropped £200 on a switch lite and discovered that the two theme options are... black and white. genuinely thought i was being pranked lmao. of course i doubt you need a whole new console for that -- surely those are features you could apply to older models through the e-shop or whatever -- but still. also a microphone. apparently that's not a thing? was definitely surprised to learn that, just like i was surprised to learn the switch lite doesn't automatically come with an SD card. idk why these were features nintendo decided to drop between console families but.

Themes are a big one, but I would love more color options tbh. I’m not crazy about mario red so the new one coming out doesn’t appeal to me and I think the AC edition would look so much better a solid white. I’ve been going back and forth on getting a lite because I love the yellow but I want to be able to play it on the tv.

More VC would be nice too, but I do want the eshop fixed. Before I realized Minecraft was a nightmare on the switch I bought a pack for it through the eshop and couldn’t get it to load on Minecraft. I ended up just getting a refund because apparently it’s a common problem

A simple power on and off button instead of the absurd gozillian step process.

QR reader/camera.
Better frame rate.

Make games NOT save on the console.

FIX joy con drift permanently.

Honestly, I've been so angry with Nintendo recently that I won't be buying a new Switch if they release one. It shouldn't have had so many problems in the first place, and I don't see why I should have to give them even more money just for working joycons or themes or buttons that work properly, or whatever else.

For the sake of other people though, if a new Switch didn't have updated joycons that don't drift, I would completely lose hope in Nintendo tbh.

If they could fix the drift alone, I would be all for it. So far with my second pair of Joy-Cons, they are pretty solid, but my first pair started drifting with just 6 months of use. Was pretty disappointed.

Also I will never turn down a better battery. I would upgrade to the "newer" Switch (I have the OG 2017 model), but seeing that they didn't fix the drift doesn't make me want to go out and purchase a new one.

  • Bluetooth for headphones like others have mentioned
  • An internal built in mic would be nice too, so you wouldn't have to plug in a mic or use another device as one
  • Joy-cons that are better quality and don't make clicking and spring sounds when I press the buttons (also fixing drifting too)

A Lite with better battery to be fair. Also a proper turn off so you don't have to hold the button in (I literally didn't know this until 3 months after I bought mine, so yeah)

More power and better looking games is almost a thing that doesn't even need saying, I think we can expect that's going to happen.

Specifics outside of that though:

- Themes. The functionality for them is literally already there, so why isn't it a thing? Throw in folders too.

- Fix those PoS joycons. It's mindblowing that we've managed to get this far with them still throwing those awful things out for people to buy and should be a massive red flag that Nintendo is no different to any other company, I.E, just wants your money.

- Update that eShop. It still doesn't even have a shopping cart. That's a absolute basic feature any digital shop should have and the only two storefronts I know that don't have one are the eShop and the Epic store, bothing being awful, the eShop the only one I'm forced to use because the hardware is tied to it. Again, it's mindblowing we're so far into its life and it doesn't have one.

- Have an ethernet port be included by default, not something that you have to buy a separate accessory to even do. Again, mindblowing. Whilst we're at it, sort out that dog s...dog poo online.

- Update the Nintendo Online in general. It may be cheap, but I still don't see the value in it. Half the price of the competition with 100% less quality. I don't like having to pay for Xbox Live or PSN either, I already pay my internet supplier to use the internet without handing over another stack of cash to the friggin' gatekeepers at Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft...But at least their online, yano, works properly. Games with gold gives something half decent more often than people are willing to admit, I'm not forever lagging or failing to connect at all, I don't have to add friends via the multiple stupid ways Nintendo makes you, I can god damn cloud save without a list of exceptions (usually the games you actually want to use cloud saves with). Nintendo's online subscription is abysmal and some old games I've played countless times already that would run on a smart fridge aren't worth it. Overhaul the whole thing before hyping up a new iteration of the Switch.

- Push out some more friggin' games for the damn thing. I thought that not having to support two consoles simultaneously (handheld and home) would have meant the Switch would end up with new brilliant games releasing every month. Nope, nah, not happening. It may have more third party support, but that's why I have a PC. Between their home and handheld consoles you near always had a new first party title to sink time into, meanwhile the Switch is [seemingly] mostly just Wii U ports, remasters and remakes.
