Hi, I’m starting to play Pokemon soul silver. What’s the best team for Pokemon soul silver?

Just pick Totodile as a starter. (You don’t have to. I’m just extremely biased.) I think Feraligatr is a great Pokémon to have on your team though. For one, he can learn moves like Ice Punch, which is effective against grass types. The water type moves will be good for the fire types. Most water types will be able to learn ice type moves.

I think it’s personal preference, although I don’t play competitively. If you’re just casually playing and not wanting to win competitive online matches, I’d say go for whichever Pokémon you like. I did a solo run with Ledyba on my Crystal version. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve done in-game, but it’s definitely possible. I think each Pokémon has their strengths and weaknesses.

I chose Totodile as my starter and I’ve started my Pokemon adventure already I’ve beaten two gyms and Totodile has evolved!

If I can remember what team I had it was:
1. Typholison
2. Dragonite
3. Sandslash
4. Megazone
5. Abomasnow
6. Garchomp

My advice is to have a diverse team that can take hits really well and can counter a lot of different types of Pokemon.

SoulSilver is an easy Pokémon game. Choose ones that you think are fun.

The fire starter, Psyduck, and Ampharos are usually musts for me though.

Ooh I just remembered that Miltank is a really fun normal type to use and counters nearly every gym leader, pick one up near Ecruteak

There's no perfect team imo, but from experience I'd heavily recommend these Pokemon:
Scizor (catch a Scyther with Technician, it'll be your best party member esp with Bullet Punch/Bug Bite/Swords Dance)
Crobat
Feraligatr (#TeamTotodile)

ESPECIALLY Scizor. It is completely worth playing the bug-catching contest until you catch a Scyther. But err...do you have a way to trade? Because it's a trade evolution unfortunately.

hugely biased so I definitely recommend crobat (in general it’s just a good and versatile pokemon past my bias though), and I’d really recommend espeon — especially since you get a free eevee around 4 badges in. very good ‘mon.

i tend to use typhlosion in just about every file so i cant offer much re: feraligatr but definitely keep the move types in mind since it’s pretty physically oriented and most water moves lean towards being special. like it won’t hit as hard with its own type for a very long time because of that. also, I don’t think it can’t learn ice punch until the postgame since the punches tend to be tutor moves? because it’s bite themed I’m guessing it probably learns ice fang though so if it does: teach it that. keep it forever. ice type moves are invaluable in the johto games.

Croconaw is probably the best starter overall, though Typhlosion isnt far behind.

Unfortunately HGSS feels like it was specifically made to punish Chikorita users with nearly every gym being bad for grass types. But I like the challenge.


Id say Heracross, Crobat, Dragonite, Ampharos, Raichu, Dragonite, Slowbro, and Espeon are all among the best options.

I know this is late but for me I like to use Pokémon I like so I use the action replay to catch any Pokémon to build my team.

I am also playing soul Silver and my team is

Riolu
Shiny Pidgey
Growlithe
Eevee (going to be a Jolteon)
Dratini

I know people don’t like to use cheats but I hate to play my favorite game without my favorite Pokémon.

I used to use the mareep line but I never evolved past flaffy and then again I use jolteon so I’m biased. But I heard amphorus is good to use.

I think Totodile is the best starter in Soul Silver because it can learn useful moves like Ice Fang. Even though Chikorita is weak against the first two Johto gym leaders, you can always use another Pokemon like Onix and Mareep, both of which come in handy against Bugsy's Scyther. Meganium has solid defenses and it can help against some of the gym leaders like Chuck's Poliwrath. I think Meganium can be more helpful against the Kanto gym leaders though like Brock and Misty, so it may be useful in the postgame. So pick Chikorita as your starter if you want a challlenge. As for other team members, Ampharos, Scizor, and Crobat are great Pokemon to have on your team. I also think Lanturn is a good alternative if you didn't pick Totodile as your starter because it's typing is unique and it can learn useful moves like Thunder Wave for catching wild Pokemon.
