What's the most recent skill you've tried to develop?

Speaking in front of an audience. I've often had the bad habit of reading straight from a paper while I'm giving a presentation but now I've been trying to get rid of that since it looks and also feels quite unprofessional. I'll still have some notes to follow at least, but awkwardly looking at a paper and saying exactly what the paper says would have to go.
 
I'm taking French because I need it (and German) for my degree.

Before that, I was learning tenor recorder. The stretching really hurt my hands, but I'd still love to learn it for real. It has such a beautiful sound, and didn't even cost that much. (imagine paying for a flute in the same range!)
