What's your favorite scary movie?

My top 3:
1. Us
2. Train to Busan
3. Hereditary
*4. Cube series

There's probably more I'm not thinking of but I think those are my top 3! Most horror movies aren't scary at all to me but Hereditary is definitely one of, if not the spookiest horror movies I have seen. Us is really unique when it comes to horror movie themes imo. Train to Busan is just a fun, well-done zombie movie. Side note, when I was in middle school The Exorcism of Emily Rose really messed me up for a solid 2 weeks. Not sure if it still holds up, haven't gotten around to making myself rewatch it.

Side side note, I also love dark comedies like Army of Darkness, Murder Party, and A Dog's Breakfast.

*Triple side note, I just remembered the Cube series. Thats a great sci-fi horror, do recommend.
A few people have been saying Hereditary, I need to look into this 🤔

i hate horror movies, but i have ironically seen a few and watch a couple of youtube channels that cover them. (dead meat, foundflix and, recently, cinema summary.) the three i've actually seen are orphan, the woman in black, and the ring. out of the three, orphan is probably my favorite in hindsight despite not having any supernatural elements. the ring was easily the scariest of the three though (and i made the mistake of seeing all of these movies when i was around 12) and terrified me so badly i had nightmares for upwards of six months and couldn't even sleep in my own room asdfghjk.

in terms of horror movies overall though...

i would say, unironically, the final destination and saw movies, even though both series arguably got progressively worse. i could never sit down and watch any of them as, well, actual movies though. i'm not into gore, and i have this weird thing where seeing people seriously injured makes my body tingle uncomfortably. (like pins and needles, kind of.) that being said, i have a weird morbid curiosity that those movies feed into. even before i saw the kill counts, there were several times i would go on the wiki pages for the movies and read about the traps from saw or the freak deaths in final destination. it's not about the death/gore itself, though, it's about the... method? (and, to a much lesser extent, the brutality.) in the sense that death's kills in FD and jigsaw's traps are both very rube goldberg and wildly out there or implausible. i don't know why, but they intrigue me, as does other media that kills characters in similar ways. it's more... inventive? interesting? than the regular slasher movies that have relatively similar (and often supernatural) antagonists.

which might be why i also liked alice in borderland. didn't watch the actual show, just watched cinema summary tell me how to beat it, but the games in it fascinated me and had that same saw/FD vibe.
Oh man, Final Destination is a good one--even if it is bad! And I agree, the deaths are really implausible but I guess it *feels* so much like just a freak accident that could potentially happen. I think it was FD5 but, ironically, it's made me very uncomfortable driving behind those trucks with the metal poles tied down! Stuff is sketchy as is!

I love the Halloween series (Michael Myers). I can't wait for the new one to come out in October!
Yes, yes, and YES! While some of them were cheesy and some part of me wants to say "please let this man die", I still love them!! Seeing Jamie Lee Curtis come back as a kick ass grandma was so AWESOME!
