When does adding HHP “make sense”?

Probably a strange question, but I’m looking for some mostly spoiler-free advice.

I started my Island about a month ago, have the Town Hall but not the the upgraded Nook’s Cranny or KK’s concert. I’m really big into role playing and would ideally like to add the DLC at a point where it makes sense in terms of story progression.

Would adding it at this point, before KK, be a bit jarring? Specifically, will the dialogue and job itself seem out of place on a fairly new, unestablished Island? Should I wait for a while?

I’d look up the specifics, but I’m trying to get a more general impression of how the inclusion of HHP is presented, rather than accidentally coming across a lot of spoilers.

Thanks to those who read this 🏝

I forgot the requirements but there is some things you need to do before you can access HHP (sorry I know this isn't very helpful since I forgot)
HHP is just a fun DLC where you can make vacation homes for villagers, whenever you do decide to get it I don't see how HHP will confuse the storyline of the main game for you.
Let me know if you have anymore questions. :)

Thanks, I guess I’ll look into what those requirements are unless somebody else responds.

It’s just important to me to have the job offer fit in with my current progress—not “hey, we heard you have this incredibly developed fancy Island!” when all there is are six villagers and a little fenced off garden lol

(I realize most people don’t care about that, I’m just a bit particular about realism I guess)

HHP doesn't expect you to have advanced designing skills actually it doesn't really matter if you do or not
a villager will have 1-3 items they will require for their home these items can be placed anywhere inside or outside and your allowed to customize these items(if it's possible to customize them) besides that you can decorate their houses however you want and you can even ignore their yards if you want to.

I started a new island and I'm pretty much in the same progress as you (no KK concert, non-upgraded Nook's Cranny) but I'm like 7 houses in already in HHP. I forgot the actual basic requirements, but you should be able to play HHP at your point in the game.

Honestly, I skimmed through majority of the dialogue, but from what I remember, the conversations are pretty quick and focus mainly on your work at HHP rather than "fancy island designing skills". The characters compliment you specifically for the work you do with the homes and not what's happening on your island, so I don't think it's all that jarring.

Thanks, that’s actually really good to know! I think I might get it before the concert then, honestly.

I’m pretty good with designing, but for storyline purposes I didn’t like the idea of them raving about my impressive work on my (currently still 1 Star) Island lol

Also yay on you starting a new Island too! It’s nice knowing some people here are still in the earlier phases of the game (even if it’s just on a second Island)

I think it would work better if you get your own house to its max upgrade (or after getting all the trophies) before starting HHP. Nook mentions your interior decorating skills, so from a realism pov, having a "good" house is the minimun requisite. That way, the story makes a bit more sense on how and why you're being hired for this special project by Lottie- who pretty much hires you on the spot because Tom Nook is your reference. While Nook is not the one rating your house per se, he always comments about the progress you make upgrading your home.

After that, I think you're pretty much set if you keep progressing through both storylines. There is a point on the HHP story where Nook references the progress of the island- so, in order to "make sense", you should indeed have at least the 3-star island and the K.K. concert done before that plot point.

If you want extra extra realism, the little story with Niko is about you being good with DIY, so doing that storyline could be after you complete the Nook Miles Stamps related to DIY or you reach a self-imposed goal of x-number of DIY obtained/crafted.

Thank you for such a detailed response—you really got the gist of what I was trying to ask about! It’s important to me that getting the job offer feels earned and reasonable for where I’m at. I read that you can actually unlock the DLC as soon as you upgrade from a tent to a house, which would’ve seemed bizarre to me and broken my immersion for sure.

Hearing that Nook specifically mentions the interior decorating skill is especially helpful, and also makes sense for the DLC. I think despite only having the ground floor unlocked, my four rooms are nice enough to have left an impression on him (and I should be getting the Gold HHA award this week, since I’ve been S-ranked since the first week of playing).

In terms of Nook mentioning the Island progress: Do you have any guess when roughly that happens? Like, is it after designing a certain number of houses? Feel free to respond if you have any idea, but you’ve already helped so much, so thanks again either way ^ェ^

When you start needing that furniture unlocked lol
That is one of the reasons I’d like to start it soon, for sure haha

One way to look at it is HHP is a flexible "work your own hours" job, and while the other villagers don't have jobs, a majority of the NPCs do, so it would make sense you can have one too.

So for Role-playing purposes, you could maybe start as soon as you want. Maybe your player has graduated from a school of interior design or something. Maybe they just learn on the job. Poke is your wages. It's currency used to buy furniture, and can even be converted to Bells.

I like the way you think! That is exactly the kind of idea I can see working for my play style.

Since I’ve already done a fair bit of interior designing, crafting, and customizing, it definitely sounds like the job offer could reasonably be a result of my progress. I think I’ll wait until I get my gold HHA award and use that as Nook’s reasoning for suggesting me!

Everyone has been so nice and helpful—thanks again to @BrokenSanity, @skarmoury, @RollingAntony, and @JKDOS for humoring my odd question! ^.̫^
