What words count as "swear words"?
When is it flaming?
When it is being disrespectful?
When is it worthy of a ban or a warn?

Discuss.

I'd like to hear these from the staff very much as most of us would.

I'd say anything that could offend someone and or anything that shouldn't go through a little kids ears. This is a family friendly forum so I'd say keep it PG 99.9% of the time.

When is it flaming?
When it gets to an argument where swear words come in as well as something where it could become a problem. Once again, family friendly. Also too that I say when it's a group of peopling ganging up against one member.

When it is being disrespectful?
Anything that can offend someone. Treat others the way YOU want to be treated. If you're gonna act like crap, than you'll be treated like crap. It's the way the world goes.

When is it worthy of a ban or a warn?
When a rule is broken with a verbal (pm/IM) warning. If it's severe than and it's the first time than I'd say discuss it with the staff, figure out what's going on, but to start out I'd give them a warn.

REVIZED, k?

I think its really up to the staff to decide. But, I think the strong line is when it comes down to hurting someones moral and emotional health.

Plus, we gotta keep it like, G-rated, as there are younger viewers of this site.

All 3 of them.

If a word is censored when you post it, it's a swear. The rules state that "the words "crap," "hell." and "damn" are allowed," but only if they aren't used towards someone. If you wouldn't say a word to your teacher or mom, don't say it at TBT.

Flaming and disrespect kinda go together. It's pretty hard to describe what constitutes disrespect, but you should be able to realize you're being disrespectful when you post something that is. If you're making fun of someone, that's disrespectful, no matter how new or whoever they may be. If you're saying something about someone, and it's not nice or factual, there's a good chance it's disrespectful... but like I said, it really depends on what is said.

When is something worthy of a ban or warn? Well, there have been times when the staff is more lenient, and other times when the staff is more strict. When someone is warned or suspended, it is never personal - they are only warned or suspended if they break the rules, or are doing something obviously inappropriate for TBT. Unless something is really bad, the first rules infringement or two will usually just result in a warn (or a PM). But, of course, warns don't mean a lot to some people. Members who are repeat offenders will be suspended.

So, if someone swears in a thread, gets warned for it, and then swears again 5 minutes later, they will be suspended, since they broke the rules twice in a 10 minute period, and directly ignored a warn by breaking the same rule right away.

The tough thing for staff is that there are members out there who want to make us look bad. Do we enjoy warning and suspending members? No. But if we didn't, there'd be no discipline at TBT, and the community would not turn out as it was meant to be - family friendly (for the most part), etc.

Obviously, if you're warned or suspended, you might be a little mad, but there;s no reason to be mad at a staff member, unless they mistakenly banned or warned you... but I believe it's been over a year since that's happened... so not very likely. If there is a misunderstanding, staff go to other forums, have AIM/MSN/Trillian/etc., and can be e-mailed. Forming secret forums and bashing the staff and other members is not the way to deal with a warn.

TBT is meant for discussing video games and having fun. If your actions prevent this from happening, then the staff has the right to warn or suspend you. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but it is a privilege for any one of us, myself included, to use the forums, and respect needs to be shown to everyone else who does, too.

What happens to members when they swear should be decided among the staff for the proper ruling. Or at least thats what I think

;) And this is a forum where there is younger viewers a lot of the time so any swearing should be looked at.

Edit: What darth said works

Well, then I was pretty damn close to being suspended.

BTW, Is saying someone has mental problems worth a warn?

Saying someone has mental problems depends on the context. It could be said in a joking matter, but if it is said with the intent of harming someone it is a flame and honestly isn't cool and is very disrespectful. I don't mean you should just agree with other on everything, but if you disagree be nice about it, don't just go calling them or their ideas names. We want people to enjoy their time here.

Now I do not know where the mental thing is from but honestly it sounds as though it had intent of hurting someones feeling and we shouldn't be allowing that. Also important to note that some people do have mental problems in this world and you really don't know who you are talking to, but you could cause them more problems saying things like that.

I believe that you're referring to me and this quote that I kind of remember. Well, you have to see the context of my first post to actually understand what I'm saying. It was something about VC games and that you should have had most of those games while growing up and then not being real serious I said if you don't then you must have problems.

Me: ...blah blah blah... if you dont then you have problems {{((not really serious...))}}

ZF: ...blah blah blah blah... ARE YOU SAYING I HAVE PROBLEMS?!! (swear) you.

Me: Well, if you have to swear in a situation like this you probably have some sort of problem.

ZF: I'll say it again, (swear) you.

Me: okay, well I guess you may have a swearing problem, well I'm out of this pointless argument

Summary plz.

Yes, he is.

Don't attempt to act like you did nothing and he he deserved that.

Is any form of piss considered a swear word because it's never blocked.

Edit: After rereading this I found that I typed it in a smart alicky way. O: I didn't mean that way. I just don't want to be suspended for using the word repeatedly.

Well, I thought that you would be able to tell I wasn't really that serious either (not that I wasn't at all) by the smile right after it. But who knows, its hard to tell on the internet. Its just text.
Also, I was not anywhere near as mad as you made me look with the caps.

And this is my last post here relating to this to avoid turning it into another argument.
