One of my favorite features about some games are custom avatars, one thing I've noticed about playing games with these features online are many noticeable trends with how people make their avatars and characters look.
I usually prefer making it look like myself as I feel like it makes the game more immersive and its more fun to me, but I'm curious as to how others make their avatars look in games.
I make my players look somewhat like myself but I don't typically spend too long on it. At least not on things like face shape or eyebrow shape or whatever. The really fine details like that don't matter much to me so I typically leave them default. Just hair, eyes, skin and outfit is good enough for me!
Usually I just make the character look somewhat like me, but sometimes I'll make an original character depending on the game. But it won't be based on an original character I made in the past or anything. It'll just be its own character that I've made up on the spot
It depends on the game. The first, third, and fourth options in the poll all fit what I usually do. Sometimes I really like the default and sometimes I just make it into a character I wish to be.
I've never made a character that looks like myself. I like to scroll through all the options and it depends on the overall tone of the game to decide what to customize. Like for instance, if it was Elden Ring (never played but I like the game lore), I would probably either make an attractive character or something super cursed like Handsome Squidward.
make the character look as similar to me as possible, with the exception of the sims. i wouldn't create a character that looks like me and duplicate them if i was making a family, would create all different characters
I almost always make my character/avatar look as much like me as possible (and by that I mean I select the same hair/eye colour and skin tone I have irl; I'm not fussed about making everything else exactly the same as irl), but sometimes I get bored of myself and just go with whichever customization options I like best lol
It really depends on the game, my mood, the customization options available and if I can change how I look later!
I used to try to make it look like me and as much as possible (with the exception of games like Dragon Age, ESO and WoW). I haven’t played too many games that let’s me anyways. Pokemon Violet and Sword, I went for a different look for once . In Sword, I made mine look kinda silly .
I try to make my avatar look like a more idolized version of me. Most attributes are the same, but I change the hair and other miscellaneous things. Creating OCs through the character customization seems fun, but in a game where you can only create the player character, I go for the "character that looks like me" option, especially since I want to somewhat immerse myself in the game.
Personally, I don't like it when there's too many options, like in The Sims. Most of my Sims 4 playtime is just creating a few Sims because I keep fussing over every detail before playing the game. :v
i like making new characters w different personalities :] i have different characters in acnl and acnh, for example. i dont feel too comfortable making one that looks like me cuz i kind of like not thinking about myself when i play games x)
I named my characters in games Yuta and gave them green hair and eyes, for such a long time, i can't imagine changing that up lmao. The only exception was hogwarts legacy where I gave it a more hogwarts appropriate name.
I have a couple of self-insert OCs that I usually try to recreate to some degree! although neither of them really look like me IRL lolOr once in a while I might just go for the customization options I think look the prettiest/like the best. As long as I like my overall look, I don't have any trouble getting into my player character, so I usually go for something more fantastical rather than trying to recreate myself. It's kind of a fun way for me to experiment with aesthetics—it's a lot harder to change my hair color/hairstyle/eye color/etc. in real life versus in games, and in games you don't have to worry about things like how much effort it'd take to maintain a haircut ;v;
Sometimes I'll also just make up a totally new character if I want to keep them distinct from myself! I do that with Stardew Valley for files where I'm not romancing either of my favorite love interests + will be doing that for my eventual Joja route playthrough ahahaha
