Where in the heck do I get axes?

To keep it simple, I'm loving this sequel but aside from the free mystery tour, I've been unable to buy or craft any starting axe for 3 days. Is this normal? Nook wants me to make a house but I can't get wood, unless I save up 2,000 miles for a ticket to take another tour. Maybe I'm not used to this, and this is the mandatory progression now? It just seems tedious because it's mandatory to gather more. Thanks for reading! Not having hourly music is giving me the not-want-to-live's.

Uhhh, I think you have to progress through more tasks with Tom Nook? I recall seeing a video where he gives you a DIY recipe for the flimsy axe at some point.

Don't you only need branches to craft the flimsy axe? Timmy sells recipes inside the tent, I think one of them is for an axe (or the Simple DIY recipes). Something like that.

I was able to get axes on the first day. I can't remember how I got it, but Timmy/Tommy also sells the recipe.

I'm at the point that Timmy is in his shop with Tommy, and I bought two volumes of DIY recipes already.. The axe here requires a flimsy axe to make! x3 wtf I've been waiting for a villager to give me the item or recipe, like the shovel (which I also can't craft or buy..) Will update later! I've advanced to day 5. I guess they still kept in the mechanic where it's limited chance as to what you can purchase for tools.

Blathers gives the recipe for the shovel (you need to donate to Tom Nook to get Blathers). That much I do remember.

I'm confused as to how you were able to upgrade the shop without an axe for wood?

Lmao ive been hoarding my critters because I wanted daddy blathers to tell me his stories instead of nook! thanks for the Intel.
As for the axes, I strategically used my free tour and used Wilbur's nook mile axes, and bought an extra to use back on my island. I'm now out of axes and wondering if I broke the game. Time will tell!

Thank you to those who said Tom gives it and that you need to donate to him to get Blathers and the shovel! I've donated my second creature and it got me the recipes I've been blind speedrunning without. What an adventure. Now the game doesn't feel broken!!
