Pretty simple question. From my time playing horizons, the biggest issue I have was how many NPCs had the same dialogue despite having different personalities. I left after the nightmare that was the Easter holiday, and Ik the game got a lot of updates, but I haven't heard any update for NPC dialogue. Since the residents feel like planks of wood that repeat dialogue too much, I only care about the sandbox and the variety of options to upgrade and tweak my island. If I wanted a sandbox, I'd play Minecraft, (seriously no other game comes close to a better sandbox).
So with Emulators more popular than ever, which game has the best NPC dialogue?
I would say Wild World, but at the same time I’ve only briefly played the GameCube version of AC and I played New Leaf for a couple months.
I definitely have the best memories of Wild World villagers, they were funny. Rude, but funny.
I’m extremely tempted to pick up Wild World again for this reason alone!
I'd be curious to play the older games where they're meant to be rude, that would amuse me a lot. I've only played New Leaf (and pocket camp briefly I guess, if it counts) other than NH and I definitely preferred the New Leaf dialogue.
Ac for the gamecube. Even though they didn't have as many as some other titles, the dialog and importance of the npcs in the game where definitely at some of its best.
my personal favorite is wild world but i think ACGC and ACWW are pretty evenly matched! they both have a good variety of silly dialogue, i think it comes down to how you prefer your villagers'... "nice levels" o_O they start off significantly meaner in ACGC!
new leaf doesn't have bad dialogue but it is sugary sweet. i can't speak on city folk cuz i haven't played it much. if i had to put the games on a scale of best to worst dialogue it would be like this: ACGC = ACWW > ACNL > ACNH
Yeah definitely wild world for me. They had an interesting mini character arc and a sense of personality. I also loved some of the NPC not seen since such as Cornimer. Tom Nook seemed the most interesting in that game for me, I loved working for him at the beginning of the gam as well. New Leaf wasn't terrible on this front, the able sisters' story was continued but WW ftw. Don't feel like I need to talk about NH, there is no story and nothing but bland repetition. To each their own though. Haven't played the GC version so no comment there, except to say that I would presume it is the best one from what I have heard.
Gamecube had the best, in my opinion. My favorites were Booker, Copper, and Porter. I think all three of those characters could have been incorporated in New Horizons. I think having a police station on your island would be cool. I’d love to be able to interact with Booker, who is my favorite NPC. Porter may have been difficult to incorporate into the game, but I think it’s possible. There could’ve been a bus line or something else Porter could have been in charge of.
I think Wild World, but I also liked City Folk because it had some things like villagers asking you to find their keys (and then when you do they usually go into their house right after you give to them it's so cute!) Over all I feel like out of the ones I played Wild World had the most interesting dialogue. I've seen dialogue of the Gamecube version and it looks very good too.
