From the NES to the Switch, which home console of Nintendo's since 1983 has been the best, in your opinion?

I say wii U because they have so many family games on that console and its always happy being on a wii U.

The Switch. While the library as of now is good, I like the concept behind it.

But for the older consoles, I believe Nintendo was at its best during the Nintendo 64 era and GameCube era.

childhood bias and currently largest console library says gamecube

plus it has a ton of my all-time favorite games too, so

snes being a super close second, though probably winning out in terms of visuals

overall, I think my ranking would be something like

gamecube>snes>wii u>wii>n64>nes

gamecube for the above stated reasons
snes for gorgeous pixel art and an extremely solid library of games
wii u for another surprisingly solid library of games despite it's unfortunate short life. plus the extra tablet screen was absolutely amazing for pretty much anything dealing with inventory or heavy information usage in addition to things like mario maker, and I really would love to see it be able to come back someday
wii just kinda sits here in middling, decent library though infamously plagued by an insane number of shovelware titles too
n64 I love, but its overall library is kinda.... hot garbage to say the least? there's still plenty of great stuff, but beyond the standard expectedly good things... ehhhhh. and it can't even win for early 3d graphics aesthetics for me, since psx is my #1 favorite for that by far
nes is honestly probably on par with if it not worse than the wii in terms of bad games, and not to mention is also pretty unquestionably the worst aged by far due to coming off of an era of a "guzzle down all their quarters" arcade mindset of game design

switch excluded due to a lack of personal experience with the system or its games

In my opinion, the Gamecube is the best hands down! :D The Gamecube has amazing games, great controller, and many neat features that future Nintendo consoles never had afterwards (except for LAN Multiplayer [which was possible with a few games on the Gamecube with the rare broadband adapter] which was recently re-introduced on the Switch). One of the biggest highlights of the Gamecube in terms of features that only recently got heavily-praised is the Gameboy Player which is by far the best way of experiencing Gameboy games (& if you can get component cables/HDMI Adapter + Gameboy Interface it truly is the best way of experiencing those games)! :) I just find it funny how so many people did not seem to care for the Gamecube back then (I remember when I could get the Gameboy Player + Start-Up Disc for $5.00 [& even whole system bundles for $5!]) and now everyone & their uncle seems to want to get one now! xD I honestly think a similar phenomenon will happen with the Wii U since it is such an amazing, under-appreciated system.

For 2nd, it will either be the Wii U or SNES for me. :)

I noticed you didn't include the Switch in your ranking.

Hmm... I'm surprised more people vote Gamecube over the Wii. Wii can do everything Gamecube can and more. It has the library of games for both and offers slightly better resolution with the right cables. I know this doesn't count as a feature, but there are some pretty sweet hacks for the Wii as well that make games like Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii have some seriously good replay value.

Nostalgia made me vote the N64. So many awesome memories of going to my friend's place and playing Goldeneye.

I noticed you didn't include the Switch in your ranking.

oh yeah. somehow in all my editing of everything else, I forgot to mention that the switch is excluded due to a lack of experience with it (played some, but not enough to judge it fully I feel)

though preliminary ranking I feel would be above the wii u. solid variety library of titles and support. plus the fact that I can play it without having to set it up to a tv is a huge bonus (tbh, I prefer handheld gaming in basically every case available)

honestly still (half-jokingly) waiting for the switch updated version that just ditches the dock, since I truly don't care about that at all

Nintendo Switch for me. :)

If you think about it, look at all of the third party support and indie games. The majority of them are decent quality. Compare them to the Wii and Wii U, well, you get the idea.

Convenience and portability. So many people have busy schedules and they barely have the time to play on a console. They can just take it on the go and play their games. To this day, I still find it mindblowing how you can take the Switch with you anywhere, considering how small it is and can still handle powerful games.

Online is a joke but I'll leave it at that.

Lastly, the games of course by Nintendo. We're already getting a few games in the coming months such as Smash, Animal Crossing,(2019 but still unknown when) Pokemon, etc. It's sure to keep us busy for a while.

In my opinion the Wii is still my favorite console. Not only does it have a good selection of games for it specifically, but it is also able to play Gamecube games (which are some of my favorites). Perhaps the Switch will eventually become superior, but I still haven't gotten very many games for that system yet. It's not really fair to compare a new console to one that has its entire lifetime of games available, so I'll wait until the Switch has run its course before coming to a conclusion on it.

Gamecube for me! SO MANY good memories! AC:pG was so good. (Well, back in the day, haha)

game-wise, n64. but everything else, gamecube. i have a big attachment with the original wii because i grew up with it. i don't have a switch yet sadly...

SNES has been my favorite for a long time and hasn't been surpassed yet.

I don't have a Switch yet, and it's still a young console, so who knows what'll happen there!

Sales would indicate otherwise, but IMO the GameCube was the best home console. The library of games on the GameCube was fantastic, and there are so many quality games that I have fond memories of growing up. The Wii was really good, too, but I feel like the overall quality of the games started to decline with that era.

I also despise motion controls, so...

Voted for the GameCube since that’s the console I spent the most time out of any on when I was younger. Definitely the best in terms of Nintendo home consoles, imo

1. SNES
2. NES
3. N64
4. Gamecube
5. Switch

Never played Wii or WiiU.
