So I have Mario Odyssey and Skyrim, both of which I love to the moon and back (no Odyssey pun-intended), but I've put some money aside for a new game. Problem is, I have no clue which one I want. Here's the thing:

-Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sounds lovely, but I already got it on Wii U (I sold it to get the Switch) and I heard that it may not have enough to pull new players in, since as nice as it looks, I don't play battle mode by myself.

-ARMs looks awesome, but people keep saying the following: 1) You'll get bored after two weeks and 2) ARMs is dead.

-I beat Zelda: BotW on Wii U, but I purposely did not do everything, did not complete the map or get the DLC, since I knew that one day I would get it on Switch. But with Skyrim, I feel like having two open-world games will limit the variety (even though I LOVEEEEE BOTW) and that with the DLC will take up all the money I have put aside (135$ CAD)

-THERE'S TOO MANY OTHER GAMES THAT I CAN'T DECIDE!

I'm just looking for something possibly different from what I already have, and preferably online/multiplayer. Don't get wrong, I love Mario Odyssey and Skyrim, but once I've found all the Power Moons in Mario, all I will have is Skyrim (for the most part; it doesn't mean that I won't play Odyssey anymore), which while immensely fun, I do not want it to be the only game I go to, because playing it too much makes it stale for awhile. Even eShop exclusives would be good! So if anyone has any ideas or recommendations, please let me know! Just looking for some variety ;) Thank you!

ARMS is absolutely not dead and it never was. The only people that say this are people that never tried the game, or people that played it a bit at release and haven't tried it since the dozens of updates added to the game. You'll still get into active lobbies, the community is extremely dedicated to making the game as active and enjoyable to everyone as possible, and events (such as Party Crash) still happen often. However, remember that it is still a fighting game. If you don't typically enjoy fighting games, then you probably won't enjoy ARMS, simple as that.

i never played it but Splatoon 2 seems like a pretty popular choice for the switch

You have to pay to play online on the switch, so I wouldn't get Splatoon 2. I never really liked Splatoon 1, and Splatoon 2 seems to be very similar to 1.

If you like 2D platformers, wait for Kirby Star Allies. It releases this March, and has local multiplayer so you can play with friends.

I don't think this isn't telling the complete truth. Splatoon 2 has an offline campaign mode last I checked? But yeah, if you don't have online then I suppose I wouldn't reccomend Splatoon 2 I guess.

...But just so you know, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo online is peanuts compared to Xbox Live and Playstation, since at most a 1 year subscription to Nintendo Online costs about $19.99.

I tried the single player campaign in Splatoon 1. I got through it very quickly and there's little to come back to after you finish it.

I HIGHLY recommend Splatoon 2 :D

I've had it since it came out (I think in June??), and, honestly, I still haven't gotten bored of it :)

Splatoon 2 does indeed have a single-player campaign. Although its content is a bit on the short side, it does a great job on teaching essential skills for the multiplayer portion of the title. The latter is certainly where the real meat is at, thus heavily depending of the online functionality.

If you're itching for a fast-paced competitive puzzle game, then look no further than Puyo Puyo Tetris. As its title implies, it incorporates the gameplay elements of Tetris and Puyo Puyo in a multitude of modes. And of course, it features both local and online multiplayer!

Looking for a game that balances both speed and platforming? Consider Sonic Mania, a lovely tribute to the 16-bit Sonic installments with generally great level design. Keep in mind that this ain't a very long single-player game, but it'll definitely keep you on your toes.

I really love ARMS! It's not as active as it once was, but there's a tight-knit dedicated community that really loves it. It has an awesome roster that's been expanded since its initial release. They also added an achievement system and some challenges that give the single player mode some replay value. If you're into fighting games and want something just as exciting but a little simpler, I think ARMS is worth the purchase. I'll defend it to the death.

One thing: I’m pretty sure Nintendo hasn’t launched a payment fee for their online services JUST yet... right?

Also, thank you to everyone who have recommended games! I still have plenty of time until I’m going to buy it so keep the recommendations coming!!

You could get stardew valley and splatoon 2. Since I'm pretty sure splatoon 2 has lower price than other games, you could get an indie game too.

Stardew valley is fun.

Stardew Valley was already going to be the game I get with the leftovers, exactly! But yeah, I'm sort of leaning towards Splatoon 2 since so many people are recommending it and I did really like the first one on Wii U :) Thank you!

although you have money set aside for a big game, i actually have a small game i'd recommend to since you want multiplayer!! Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime got a switch release, it's only $15 and it's such a good co-op game. idk if you've heard of it or if you already have it, but if you don't, then you should definitely consider it, i've had it for a long time on steam and i bought it again on switch!

edit: also splatoon 2
