Hi,

I am sorry if this has been asked but I could not find any answer regarding this. There must be a FAQ on this. Please help.

Why are people looking for TBT currency in trading? What is this used for? Thank you

A currency (in general) is something you pay with as long as people believe in it. With that I mean, that people still want to pay with said currency, because they trust it and the people who use it. TBT is for this forum only and things as buying and selling can be done with TBT as long as people will use this forum (and it's own currency) to improve their game experience.

I hope this helps

Well, I think people find comfort in something that they can't really lose, and the TBT the value has gone up recently (The TBT to NMT to Bell conversion rate can be found here). TBT is used for buying collectibles (from other people or the store), username changes, animating your avatar, changing your user title color, and buying items in-game! I hope that is all useful to you! If you don't know, you have 1,529 Bells!

A lot of people are looking for TBT currency in trading because it's a currency that can't be hacked/devalued/etc, while Items/Bells/NMT can be duped so it has lost it's value pretty much, but tbt currency will always have value on this forum!

Most people tend to use it to buy collectibles (the little pictures you see underneath my profile picture on the side) to decorate their profiles with. It's only for aesthetic reasons, but you can also use TBT to purchase add ons or change your user names on this forum. You can see more things you could purchase with TBT in the Shop tab next to your notifications tab!

I hope this helped! 💖

Exactly, TBT is easier to gain. It's more fair than NMT, because with NMT people can timetravel or even cheat to get NMT's easily. This is not the case with TBT

Exactly! That was my point too. The value of TBT can't change. The value of Bells or NMTs, on the other hand, can drop significantly.

I see. Thank you very much for all of your prompt replies. I was never aware all that you could configure at your profile level and let alone the images you could add below your avatar. I believe this is all associated with the Bell Tree Forum. I am not aware of any in game experiences you could have and neither the Shop in this forum. I should also be able to find out how to earn the TBT, right? Thanks for the pointers. I guess it is time to check them out. Thanks a lot.

You can earn TBT by simply posting! People can also donate to each other by clicking on the bells under your avatar and transferring whatever amount you want to them! Always happy to help :)

note that certain boards such as the bulletin board, introduction board, tbt marketplace, basement+celler, etc don't give bells for posting

and certain places also give more bells than others. like the animal crossing themed boards will give you slightly more for less content vs brewster's cafe

also, usually sitewide announcements in the bulletin board will be coupled with a limited time/quantity* redemption code(s) for a modest amount of tbt too

*=codes are redeemable once per user always, so "quantity" here just refers to a limit on how many users can redeem before it's unusable

I'll also toss in, the reason I personally use TBT for currency is because I'm someone who does duping glitches for IGB and NMT as well as other items, and it feels wrong of me to use those for trading.

I prefer TBT because it's easier to send to someone rather than dealing with stacks of bells in your pockets.

To provide an alternate perspective, some traders (I believe the majority) will not accept TBT currency in exchange for their items. They may not be interested in collectibles or may simply prefer other things (like directly trading for items they still don't have or IGB). The problem with TBT is that it has limited use, in that it's limited to this website only and loses much of its utility if people don't like collectibles and don't want to change certain site features. Sure, it may be more reliable than NMT/IGB/items because it can't be duped or easily made, but it can't be as easily used as any of those other things either.

I saw a lot more people using TBT in the New Leaf days, but I've definitely seen an uptick in TBT interest lately in New Horizons!

I personally am not too interested in collectibles, but I'm very happy to part with my TBT for any traders looking for it because it really is quite useless to me (other than using it for trades!).

I am of the same view as the above poster when it comes to TBTs. TBT is IMHO akin to a local currency that is hyper-inflated due to demand over supply, just look at some of the price of items posted in TBT, and compare it to what the external market price of the same item in NMT. Yes, NMT can be duped (Nintendo may or may not have fixed it in 1.2.1) but the size of the market outside of Bell Tree Forums is large enough to absorb these dupes and keep the items priced reasonable sane when compared to a close TBT eco-system going through hyper-inflation. IMHO, the increase use of TBT also discourages new users or existing users who prefer not to engage in discussion and focus on buying and selling to participate in trading. I for one has divested all my TBT holdings to NMT :)

EDIT: Holding 1000s of NMT is a storage nightmare but the buying power is amazing :)

I know I’m super late to this thread, but i have also been wondering what the value of tbt was for the longest time and after reading all the answers I feel like I really get it. Plus nowadays we can exchange tbt for NMTs at a really good rate in the Nooks Cranny threads so it’s become easier than ever to translate the Bell tree Forums currency into buying power on other sites. Not that I ever do that, since everything I need has been right here on this forum anyway. And since the Nooks Cranny forum shops have been becoming better and better lately, i see no reason to use any other website really.

I mean I should be looking to increase my tbt funds

if I wasn't being a lazy sack of **** though, I'd be trying to get more tbt in preparation for the next egg hunt

I think TBT is just more convenient to use for trading on this forum, because you just donate it to someone for trade and it's an instant transfer; the chance of someone scamming you is less because there's records with every transaction.

This is foreign to me though...what is an egg hunt?
