Why do people get pissy about bumping threads?

If the thread concerns something I wanna discuss should I just recreate the thread or do a similar one to it? If that's not allowed then what am I supposed to do? It would seem pretty unfair to not be able to do at least one or the other...

Just curious is all, it's a question that's been bugging me and I've been meaning to address for all the forums I go to..

It's probably just because it's mentioned in the forum guidelines not to bump posts more than once or twice a day. I've never been to another forum that has this attitude towards bumping d:

I think the OP means bumping old threads about a topic they would like to continue discussing. Usually a moderator will lock a thread if its a few months old although it really depends on whether or not the thread is still relevant.

I would just use common sense when dealing with this issue. If there's no thread out there about what you want to discuss then you can create a new thread, but you should always search the forum to make sure there isn't a fairly recent thread about it. I would definitely advise against posting in threads that are a few months old, especially if it's a time-sensitive issue that is no longer relevant.

Some people just can't be bothered to go looking through pages and pages of topics just to find if someone has already posted the same sort of topic. (Me included)

Having too many similar discussion threads clogs up forum. Believe me, it was getting incredibly annoying seeing 5 or 6 "Should I reset my town?" threads all by different people discussing the same thing so the moderators created an official thread for those kind of discussions.

It's not frowned upon to bump your threads not more than once a day but it is frowned upon to bump a thread that is quite a few months or years old from its last official non-bump post. Understandably people want to join in on the conversation but there isn't a conversation to be had if a person is a month or so late.

You are more than welcome to make a similar thread to something else as long as the original thread is too old to be posting in. Also, there are some very popular topics that already have stickied threads. These threads can be posted in whenever, no matter how old the last few posts are.

On the note of annoying topics, anyone else find the numerous this villager or that villager polls threads annoying? Or that some people post a new thread every single time they get a villager picture?

Anyway, as has been said before, I think common sense is the best way to go. If it isn't very old it's probably okay to bump it with a relevant post.

I'm not sure I understand the phrasing of the first part of the question but this is why it's a big deal to create new threads that already exist :/
Fortunately, the Resetting Issue was stickied :D

It comes down to how relevant the thread is, how relevant your post is to that. Some threads will have been answered time ago and they've just died down in the back pages. Now those ones are obviously going to be a no-no.
Others were you're just answer, for example, what character you like best in your game, something that can just be simply added to. However some threads do get revived and made new, but again those will be pages back and years old.
Again, dates do matter to a point. Keep an eye on dates and you should be fine.

Ah yes, thanks guys for clearing up the confusion....it makes sense really, I just needed a little clarification on it..:)
