So I send these free-loaders gifts in my letters, and when I first started this, I would get a full mailbox the next day.

Then after a couple of weeks I still send them letters, and no one writes me back!

They say they can't understand what I'm saying which doesn't make sense because my letters go like this:

To Amelia,
Here is a gift for you!
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
From Kepa

And what really ticks me off is that the items I send them ends up being displayed in their house shortly after!

Before I'm tempted to barrage my animals' homes with Pitfalls, someone want to give me some advice?

Those free-loaders! And then on Valentines Day, ONLY Amelia gives me chocolates. I think its time for plan Pitfall. XD

You have to write at least one line of text. Even just typing the word "friend" over and over with spaces in between will work, as long as it's enough to fill the first line and a little on the second.

But isnt, Here is a gift for you! One line of text?

Also I agree with plan pitfall. I do that to all of my neighbors except 1.

It has to be 2 lines of text. Spell correctly and punctuate properly, y'know the animals. They're picky.

It doesnt have to be spelled correctly. I wrote a letter to a neighbor with improper spelling, it was 1.5 lines of text of me asking him why he smells so bad. He sent me a gift back, it was a shirt or something stupid

I don't really send any type of messages to my neighbors when I send them stuff, but they usually still send me something back.

Maybe you should socialize with them a bit.

I normally write complete gibberish and fill the whole letter. I think Rowan wrote back 'don't write stuff I can't understand'! lol :p.
I also send them fruit because apparently if you send them a native fruit you might get a foreign fruit.

excuse me, they do fall in pitfalls, they have that name for a reason :p
and you're right for the wifi part, you can only do that when your gate's closed, but they sure do fall

I don't know why they aren't sending you letters back. I once sent all my neighbors about 3 letters each WITH presents, and they wrote back to me for every letter I wrote.

Yep, that's all I did when I first started playing. My villagers would write back "I'm so glad you moved here!" and stuff like that. I'd send them crappy seashells and they'd send me nice furniture.
