Why is everyone complaining about the island size when it's bigger than CF?

sadly your math is wrong... i hate to be a downer but 9 x 9 is 81 not 99 so itll be 5,832 tiles which is only a little bigger than new leaf and smaller than city folk and gamecube...

I think it's small for 8 players but hopefully it will get bigger later. especially with a split river so much space disappears. i am pretty happy about the map right now thanks to the beach being animal crossing new leaf island style and there seems to be some type of split elevation in the map because of the different colors. i just hope it's not too small.

it's 9 x 11 though

Oh really huh? I thought it was the ocean that was the problem.

Its a 9x9 grid of 9 by 11 rectangles. They did their math properly, it's just a bit confusingly written.

I think people are complaining about the size because of how barren the game looks in early gameplay. The map seems small, and they covered a good portion of the lower third in a few seconds. Of course, this happened in other games, but because there's not much there in the earliest parts of the game, it just feels small since there's nothing to distract your attention elsewhere. Hopefully it'll feel like a proper size once you progress.

My concern is that a signifigant amount of those tiles consist of sand and water. The amount of actual land tiles to work with seems smaller than I would like.

That being said, I know the game is still in development. Now that we have more town customization than ever, naturally we will want more space to work with.

Hey OP, do you mind if I include your picture in my analysis doc? I'll include credit.

It's very good at proving the point that I was attempting to make. (Which is that the map is at least as big as City Folk)

No need to credit me, an anonymous user on the v board made
this, not me.

The map we saw probably isn?t going to be the map we get. It was probably just a bare bones for an E3 demo. I really don?t see just having a plain, flat map. 9 months is a long time to fix a lot of things.
