Why is your favorite villager your favorite?

I absolutely adore Eugene. I'm not really sure what made him click with me but I've definitely always loved the rockabilly/50's fashion aesthetic. Plus he's a huge nerd. He tries to be cool but you can just tell with a name like "Eugene" and those beady eyes behind his sunglasses that he was probably picked on a lot in school. Or at LEAST by his two older siblings - it's revealed in some New Leaf dialogue that he's the youngest child.

This is an adorable thread to read through, though. I love seeing what people love about their favorite villagers and what headcanons people have of them!

I don't know yet who is my favorite villager. I had previously Wolfgang and Roscoe in New Leaf or Wild World, I don't remember, so meeting Roscoe made me happy! I have now him and love him and I'm looking for Wolfgang as well. Good memories with them I suppose, because Fang is a good cranky villager too, maybe even more goodlooking than Wolfgang and I'm not sure I really want him. If I meet him before, that's nice, but priority to Wolfgang!

Marshal is also my favorite. Smug is an incredible personality and he looks really cute! I never met him before New Horizons, but a lot of people were talking about him: I just watched pictures and felt in love haha. Had him on a previous island and fortunately, my amiibo card will permit me to invite him again! He is the cutest thing I've ever seen in this game! His facial expression is way better than a simple smile.

I just realized that Annalisa has a chinese aesthetic going on, LittleMissPanda. It certainly adds to her charm, and the makeup makes sense on her!

Eugene has style, he totally has the bad boy look down, nice taste, Kumori! And yeah, he’s totally a dork trying to be cool haha. Agreed, it’s pretty fun to read and I love it, glad to hear you enjoy it as well!

Her Majesty Hades, I see you really like the grumpy type! Loyal to Wolfgang above all, that’s awesome. I wonder if he would get jealous of Fang?
Marshal is one of the most adorable villagers, so tiny and cute! Love all your favs!

Let me tell you about my boy Colton.

He moved in at random in my New Leaf town and my first thought was that he reminded me so much of Will from Harvest Moon (Sunshine Islands) who my Harvest Moon character married. Colton has Will's hair, Will had a white horse and was portrayed as a kind of prince charming. I sound like a total Will fangirl - that's not it at all, bear with me, the resemblance just struck me when I first saw him in my town. I chatted with him often and he quickly became my New Leaf bestie. Nearly every time I opened the game he would drop in for surprise visits he often asked to play hide and seek or for me to come over. I loved how much I was able to interact with him. I have him on my island now as well, but he is missing a lot of the character he had in NL. I especially miss his visits.

Whenever I see people looking for smug villagers I never (or hardly ever) see Colton on their list so I'm happy I got to spread the love a bit today ~

My favorite villager is Tom the cat; I got him randomly as one of my first villagers in NL. I really loved how he opened up the more you got to know him, and how he eventually cared about me and my well being a lot. I played NL during a hard time in my life and really valued Tom and his dialogue because it made me feel special. I got Tom again in NH because my island didn't feel complete without him <3

I love Chief. He was on my first ever game I played when I was travelling. I was in Japan when I first encountered the game on the GameCube back in the day. He was the one who got me into the Animal Crossing game. I will never forget that day. I have been playing since. I have played every single game they have bought out for the franshice. The only one I have not had are CityFolk. I never owned a Wii. It's a shame though.

For me it's hard to choose because I have so many favorites! Currently mine are Tybalt, Del, and Tiffany.

Early on I debated whether or not to get rid of Tybalt, since a yellow tiger doesn't really fit with my nautical theme, but honestly, his charm has completely won me over! He's always so nice (and a little dumb, haha), so I always imagine him to be a lughead with a heart of gold! <3 He's always so expressive too with his big 'ol bushy eyebrows. He seems like the kind of guy that would help fix your fence or give you a piggyback ride just because he's so nice. One of the best Jocks around!

Del was an early villager of mine. I found him on an island and was immediately drawn to his design. I love his sleek design and colors combo, his warehouse-styled house, and his charming cranky personality. He's always been so nice to me and helpful that I see him as the dad of the village, always happy to dispense his wisdom.

Tiffany has followed me from NL and for good reason. I consider her more of a "mature" design, due to her makeup and fishnet stockings, and I honestly love it. She's alluring, mysterious, worldly, and worthy of respect. She can command a room with her stately presence and I admire that. She's the kind of person you'd think would be intimating but in fact, she's actually super nice.

i have so many! i love julian and stitches the most though. julian because i love everything about unicorns, and stitches because i'm a stuffed animal collector irl and he's just adorable!

Honestly, I am not sure who all my favorites are yet, but I think a villager becomes a favorite when they cross over from being a cute little character with cute canned dialogue to having a unique story about who they are built in my head. So when this doesn’t happen I think this is when villagers don’t ‘click’ for me, no matter how adorable I find them (kabuki - I still think he is one of the objectively best overall designs; vesta - so cute ; and bones - a good doggo!)

I just don’t know how this mental switch of mine works, so it is trial and error for now.

hazel is one of my favourites, and it’s because she’s such an underdog (undersquirrel??). i’ve always thought she was cute because of her little monobrow and she’s just so sweet in general. she was a random move in in NL and i loved her house too - sadly NH wrecked her house, but oh well.

one of my old favourites is aurora too - she was the first villager i ever received a picture from back in WW when i didn’t even know that was a thing that could happen. bruce in NL and poncho in NH have become my favourites too because they’ve been the firsts to unexpectedly give me their pictures!

The one and only moon rabbit Ruby!
Yeah she's literally the moon rabbit from folklore, and her house is supposed to be the moon.
She arrived in my town back in Wild World, and I instantly fell in love with her, she have been with me in every game since.

She's also giving Elon a run for his money, she got Space X going on in her living room.

I totally get that, building up the head canon is a must! (Also with a mix of liking the cute design, of course.)
The villagers gotta have chemistry, they gotta feel alive, they need a story.

Egbert is my lazy little love for so many reasons. I love that his name is a little pun, for starters! I think it's so cute. His expression always gets to me too, he just looks so worried all the time! Same here buddy, same here. I think his colours are cute and I love when he wears little sweaters, especially in the fall when he's got his little bowl of soup. He looks so extra cozy. Plus!! In New Horizons he always lets me sit next to him, lol. Other villagers as soon as I sit beside them they stand up and leave. D: Or they leave right before I get my camera ready to take a picture.

I've loved him since New Leaf, he was one of my starter villagers. He was also the first villager to ever move out without warning and I was heartbroken. I didn't know that was a thing that could happen in Animal Crossing and I was super bummed. It was even more lousy to learn I'd have to cycle through 16 villagers to get him back. Then!!! Then when I finally did cycle through 16 and get my lazy little chicken back he had the audacity to move out on me a few days later when I hadn't been able to play khdgkhdsghgd. Luckily in New Horizons he can't move unless I say it's okay, lol. When I found him on an island I knew it was meant to be.

Colton is my current favorite. I just love his design and animation and how the smug dialogue sounds perfect coming from him. He's such a dork, but a lovable dork.

Bob was the name of my cat growing up. He was our first family pet and we had him for something like 17 or 18 years? When my brother and I learned there was a Bob in AC, we both went crazy and were so excited. It's a very nice reminder having him on my island.

I don't know who my favorite(s) is/are yet. However I am getting closer to knowing!! I met ALOT of villagers through the dream suite which I feel like it really helped. I have a reasonable list of villagers now that I am going zero in on and acquire.
I do know who my favorite Uchi is though.
That is Shari. I love her moodiness and bluntness. Or at least I perceive her that way. She is also colorful and kinda reminds me of a sock monkey because of it.
Still gonna check out Plucky anyway.

choosing a number one favourite is pretty hard, but that privilege has to go to ankha... i adore cats and all the cat villagers, and i LOVE ancient egypt! it's been a fascination of mine ever since i was a kid. ankha has a gorgeous design, a snooty personality (which is one of my favourites), and the coolest interior design... she's definitely worthy of being worshipped.

My favorite villager is Bones and it just comes from having him in my Game Cube town and I thought he was so adorable and he would always dance around his house and leave messages at the bulletin board about how left something buried in a certain acre. He was just the cutest thing and then he's always been a constant in every game since.

I can say I don't like what they've done to his house in NH and I feel like they drastically changed his interests and that's a little bothersome, but then you see him running around playing outside and it all goes away cause he's still such a cutie!

I have 3 favourites. Julian, Marshal, and Fang. I even have little figures of the three of them, and Amiibo charms of them. They're like comfort characters to me.

Julian, because I love unicorns so much. My room is adorned in them. I'm obbsessed with unicorns. I couldn't not. I also love his aesthetic; It's very magical, celestial. In my island's lore, he's a sort of demigod. He's so pretty.

Marshal, because he's just so.. cute. I didn't actually love him until ACNH (I've played every AC game). I love the fact that he's so short just his little ears poke out when he's crafting, and the smug personality is my all time favourite (hence why... I have 2 favourites in the catagory). I find it so charming. And I think he embodies the smug personality the best. He's small, vain, and adorable.

Fang, because wolves are my favourite animal. Much like unicorns, my room is adorned, and I am obbsessed. I also have always had white wolves in my AC towns, ever since the Game Cube version when I was just a little kid. He and Whitney have always had a close spot in my heart and will stay there, as I've always loved wolves, especially white and grey ones. Having he and her in every town is always a must. Whitney is my second fave, but Fang I can personally identify with as a sort of self insert character, so he's number one.
