Why?

Without using L cancel, all of your attacks will have lag, making you wide open for attacks. Without using Wavedash there's no spacing between you and your opponent, making you vulnerable to most things. Without short hops you'll make full jumps, leaving you wide open in the air too.

L Cancel: if you were good, you'd know how to fight without being left wide open. ever. I use Luigi and Marth most of the time, and they aren't necessarily fast characters, yet I'm never left open because I think ahead and I don't go in kamikaze mode thinking that my little L Cancel will save my butt. This is exactly what I was talking about when I said..
once you have the technique down, it actually takes your skill level down, because it makes it easier to fight since you have those techniques.
see, you use these moves as a replacement for being a pro, it's totally generic. nce you have these on your side, you can do something stupid and noobish and get away with it, sometimes even getting a kill off it. You use these because you don't know how to be good without them.

WaveDash: ROFL.

You've gotta be kidding me, right? You're a total noob if you don't know how to get space between you and your opponent. if you're able to maneuver quickly, you can get some good space using only the real moves. By the way, why would you want space between you and someone if you're apparently a pro? shouldn't you be fighting rather than running away like a coward?

Short Hops: Ok, dude, you're starting to sound like you have no skill here...

vulnerable.... in the air.... wow.

I'm strongest when I'm way high in the air, I can't be "vulnerable", because I'm too busy owning the other dude. There's this little thing called practice, where I train myself not to suck >_<. See, you're using these so that you don't actually have to get good on your own, all you have to do to look skilled is to keep pressing buttons in a certain order really fast until it's an automatic reflex, but it's not legitimate.

look at it this way.

you say that anyone who doesn't use these will end up vulnerable. I'm living proof that that is a lie. you saying that proves that you can't play well without them, that you always end up vulnerable and getting hit if you don't have them to back you up. That just says you don't have genuine skill. If you had real skill you could play without them without being vulnerable. You have to trust your skill and think on your feet, knowing what to do and when, and pulling it off, rather than just winging it without knowing what you're doing, something goes wrong, you're about to get hit, and then *poof* you're saved by an L Cancel or Wave Dash etc.

try it without the techniques, learn real skill.
Yeah, that's all untrue. You may be good without these tatics, but if you can use them, you're godly.

Obviously you've never played people good enough, since you never use these tatics.

THIS IS INTENSE!!!!!

My grandpa (78 years old) has won 3 tourneys of Melee, using Princess Peach. I don't know if this makes a point about how I don't know what wave dashing and L canceling is, but he doesn't use them.

Those techniques are highly overrated. Most people depend on them too much and now are worried when they are taken out of the game.

OK, OK.

I tried wavedashing. Cool move, yeah... but it does not help me win matches. L-canceling, if I'm associating it with the right move, is quite valuable, I use it often.

Will I start hyperventilating if these techniques are taken out of SSBB?

Heck no.

I can tell you have never actually played anyone thats really good.

Its like what happened with me, I used to think I was really good at videogames because everyone I played them with wasn't that good. Then I played online... and yeah.

BTW, I suck at melee, but thats because I never use anything advanced/I never practice/play it at all.

I know it's not SSB related but same thing for me.

HA! I used to think I was the crappiest Metroid Prime Hunters player in the world, and then I go out and get to 3* in 1 hour (exaggeration)

Wavedash isn't as useful as L-cancel with Ganondorf.

Let me explain what happens if wavedash is not present in Brawl:

Waveshine= No more waveshines for Fox, leaving 100+ combos in the dust.
Edgehog= Wavedash was the easiest way to edgehog, now we have to jump to the edge.
Falco's Pillar= We still don't know if Falco's back, but if he is then no more pillar for him.
wavelanding= no more wavelanding

:(
Shine infinite= no more waveshine = no more shine infinite.

Here's a post on Wavedash uses (from Smashboards)

* Edgehogging
* Mind-games
* Spacing
* Wavedashing forwards/backwards into an attack
* Wavedashing into/out of shield/shine
* Wavedashing into a grab
* Wavedashing combined with normal dash dancing
* Wavedashing upon landing (just the dodge into the ground required)
* Wavedashing into platforms for quicker landings (just the dodge into the ground required)
* And much, much more!

Everybody please understand. I'm a Fox player. If there's no Wavedash, there's no Waveshine, and that destroys me. DESTROYS me. I'll be done with this game if there isn't any in there.

good :gyroidtongue:

I have no proof since I've never been in a tournament and I have no way of recording my screen

to all those people saying I dont play anyone good... I've played some extreme pros before... Some people play in almost literally all their free time, some of them being homeschooled and having a lot of it, and I own them in my sleep. Then there are the wave dashers and L cancelers, who think they're all that because they know how to do it, but it easily shows that under all the techniques, they have no skill, own them easily.

you don't understand what I'm saying... see, playing with all the techniques, you use them out of desperation because theres no other way to win.

that's utterly pathetic. This is my prime example people, you actually can't play without them because you'll lose and you'll actually *gasp* have to get skill.

This is like the 6th time I've completely redone this post. I just can't begin to explain how stupid you are sounding now. Just because someone uses moves that you can't do doesn't mean they don't have skill. I do not see why you think that. Advanced techniques are *gasp* advanced and are not as easy to use in the middle of a battle as a regular move. Using advanced techniques does not mean you don't have skill... And saying its bad that he can't play without it, what if whatever move/strategy/whatever you use was just completely removed in brawl? Oh wait, I can already see your response: "I haz skillz you don't lolz."

Oh, and people don't sue them out of desperation, they use them because they are better to use >_>

The delay doesn't bother me that much (if at all). I'll be getting Guitar Hero III and Zack & Wiki next week, Super Mario Galaxy two weeks later, and then I'll get around to getting Phantom Hourglass sometime soon.

And honestly, Guitar Hero III and Super Smash Bros. Brawl can last me all this generation, but Super Mario Galaxy and Z&W are very nice extras.

Then play as someone else. You weren't destroyed before Wavedashing was revealed, were you? And even if you were, a game where you only Wavedash sounds like a very lame game.

Hooray for Sonic!

I could learn an advanced technique any day. Just read about it, and keep trying to press the buttons and it becomes a reflex implanted in your mind, I used to play gunz and I had all those butterflies, slash shots, and wall jumps down, and I could do them so easily right in the middle of everything. Using them in the middle of a battle is by no means at all hard.

I never said that if you use them, you don't have skill, I said that if you use them because you can't win without them, that means you have no skill. And that's honestly the case with many people.

if planning ahead and using the right moves at the right time was a technique, then yes, I would die if it was taken away, the entire game would die too because that's the core of the game.

Seriously, try playing without them, and see how much harder it is, that's how I play, I don't play games as easy as possible, I play with a challenge.

WOW! we had more than half of the people on the boards right now, looking at THIS THREAD!!!! cool!

The problem about the delay for me, is the fact that I can only save up enough money a year to get 5 30 dollar games, and I can only buy 1 Wii game every 6 months, not including B-day and X-mas. So now I have to buy Mercs 2 AND Brawl, instead of getting one for X-mas, because THEY BOTH GOT DELAYED!!!!!

Ok, let me rephrase: If your most commonly used move was taken away.

Hey guess what, I don't use Advanced Techniques.

OMG WT F HAX.

Why do I think Brawl might not be as amazing as we once thought it would be?

Well, it's starting to seem like it's just Melee with some new characters and items and attacks and online play. But, oh! online play...

Just like the game, I think this could flop. Nintendo's online service SUCKS. Until they get rid of friend codes and have a XBLive-esque online setup, their games' online play will be average, at best. Mario Strikers' online play is a joke - there's so many d/c's, even with a good internet connection, that it's hard to enjoy. And the stats reset every week or two or something. And there are friend codes. Brawl will most likely be the same...
