Over the weekend a friend visited me. She asked what I was doing. I told her I had been playing ACNL.

She said -- she played Wild World and hated it. She said the graphics hurt her eyes. She stopped playing after a couple of days. I did not play WW and so I could not compare the two games.

I showed her ACNL and she gasped. She left my house and went directly to Walmart to get ACNL.

She visited me yesterday with her new ACNL and the copy of WW.

It was my time to be in shock. Holey Toldeo the graphics in WW are so diiferent from ACNL.

There was one thing I liked about WW. The store sold a message in a bottle. I thought that was a nice addition to the game.

I prefer AC:NL by far. So many more features, better graphics. The only thing I would like better about WW is the characters personalities, because the crankies were actually cranky and snooties were actually snooty.

WW was my first and only Animal Crossing game before playing New Leaf. I graphic are much better in NL. I hated WW for not having any real holidays, I almost didn't buy it because of that. I did like that both stores (Nook's & Able's) were open 8am - 11pm and that villager plots were marked out from the beginning. I did like Blathers going on & on & on about things also. I miss that. But New Leaf, by far, is a better game. So much to do. I don't think I will ever get bored of it.

WW was my first AC game also. I loved it but NL is so much more fleshed out. Since I didn't use wifi in WW the message in a bottle was kind of blah to me. I would occasionally get game messages but they were so lame.

Cranky villagers in WW were cranky.
And Blathers talked about every fish-bug you gave him in WW.

But it's true that NL has more features. And better graphics.

Wild World has little to no features. New Leaf all the way

EDIT:

PS. Playing any Nintendo DS game on the 3DS will hurt your eyes

The graphics in Wild World never bothered me as much as they do with some people. I thought they were pretty good for a DS game, and I liked them better than City Folk's graphics/style, which I found unimpressive. I also don't really play Animal Crossing for the holidays, so that didn't bother me too much either. Overall, I really love Wild World, and there are even things I like about it more than New Leaf -- villager houses (both how they look on the outside, and how they have pre-determined places), the personalities/dialogue, the hybrid system (none of this hybrid red flowers stuff), the way I could "lock" certain neighbors in town and convince neighbors I wanted to stay with 100% surety, and maybe more. But New Leaf has a lot more features to keep you busy, with PWPs, more house upgrades, new furniture, the island, etc. So I might prefer New Leaf overall because of its new features, but still have a fondness and special place in my heart for Wild World. It has its own charm and more casual gameplay. It's a very old game, keep in mind.

I dug out my old DS Lite and WW the other day with my flatmate, and even on that it really hurt my eyes when I played it, even for 15 minutes. Also, the movements were jerkier than I remembered, and the controls are slightly different to NL, so I was getting confused for a while trying to pull up weeds, haha. I'm sure I'd get used to it again if I played it enough, but for me atm, it's NL :) although I think the music in WW is better :)

I remember really enjoying WW when I first played it. I booted it up recently for the hell of it. Looking back, I had a good run with WW, but I much prefer NL now.

Not everything is about the graphics, but I do agree they were bad on Wild World. I'm in love with New Leaf, and have no intention of going back to Wild World.. ever.

Wild World wasn't my first Animal Crossing game so it has zero sentimental value.
I feel like it doesn't have the same charm as Population Growing and New Leaf.
Same thing with City Folk. I cannot get attached to those two games for some reason.
New Leaf was like a shimmering glimpse of hope and I am not disappointed.

Wild World was my first AC game, and I adored it, I knew I had to have it from the day I saw the advert for it on TV.. I was addicted to it for years, and I was always cycling and catching things, and I couldn't get over it.. I didn't like the lack of holidays though, that bugged me.. Plus the removal of SO many villagers also wound me up a bit, as there were very few villagers who were dreamy material then.. City Folk was essentially built using WW as a base, but ofc added the City, and lots of holidays and villagers.. But the majority of the brought back villagers (besides Sydney, Astrid and Boomer, being the main ones) weren't all that great imo, and all of the introduced villagers sans Wendy were just awful.. I never got addicted to CF, only playing it for a few months

New Leaf looks so much better aesthetically, and some of the music is epic, I think I got used to the WW/CF music more, and I like it more, but some of the music in this is epic.. There are so many awesome villagers to choose from.. It's just amazing..

New Leaf is better than Wild World in my opinion, but I'd never call WW or it's graphics terrible.. The lack of holidays and good villagers were it's main downfalls with me though

New Leaf hands down. Wild world was just really bad. The graphics could have been much better and the game has a lot more potential.

Funnily enough, WW and NL are the only two Animal Crossing games I've played. Naturally, I played Wild World first and I played it a whole lot. I loved it and I certainly never would've played New Leaf if it wasn't for that. On that basis, I would say Wild World, but I just feel like I'm enjoying New Leaf more. Of course, it was a very long time ago that I last played WW and sadly I don't own my copy anymore, although I wish I did. I was also much younger back then, and also much more impatient. If I were to go back and play WW now, I'm sure I could enjoy it a whole lot more because I would know what I'm actually doing, but seeing as how NL has definitely held my interest and entertained me much more than WW did, I just have to give this one to NL.

I never really worried about graphics much, if the game is good I could look past that. Well, unless its horrifyingly bad, but that wasn't the case in my opinion with wild world. New Leaf graphics really are amazing though.

WW was my first game I played of the series back in like 2005 and I usually always played it every summer, or whenever I was on school break. Even though there's not nearly as much to do as in New Leaf looking back, I still always thoroughly enjoyed playing it for a while whenever I could. The music was great, now nostalgic for me. The characters were all funny and matched up to their personalities, which is something that I thought New Leaf is lacking. It felt like getting sharks or other rare fish and bugs was really rewarding and less common than it is now in NL. And paying off my entire house was like the best feeling ever because it actually took me forever, but this time in nl i'm just like meh.
As much as I love all the new features, having limited dialogue for each personality kind of ruined it for me and it gets repetitive really fast.

Wild World was pretty ground-breaking at the time -- It was Animal Crossing's long-awaited sequel and the series' debut on a portable device. It was one of the DS's best titles in the system's earlier years. Of course it fails to compare to GC version. GC was a console game and had way more hardware capabilities.

City Folk was nothing but a reboot of Wild World and I treat it like Animal Crossing: Wild Word -- The Wii Remake.

And now New Leaf surpasses it obviously. But Wild World is pretty great still.

I'll always love WW, I have the best town on there currently (Kiki, Ribbot, Octavian, Biskit, Whitney, Tabby, Blaire, and Lobo) and I love my house. I prefer NL though.

I loved Wild World. It was my first AC game. I bought a DSi XL just to play it. (Likewise, I bought a 3DS XL just to play New Leaf.) I played it for 3 years and only stopped playing it because NL is here and I have only so much time to spend on games.

Among the things I loved about Wild World was the fact that cranky villagers were cranky! Heh. I totally fell in love with the likes of Rolf, Hopper and Cyrano. Kiki was among my starter villagers and I "locked" her into my game when I ran an errand for her. I wish this feature still worked in NL, then I wouldn't have to worry about my favorite residents moving. I liked that villager plots were all pre-determined in WW. I liked that the holidays were not culture-specific. Flea Market Day was a fun way to earn bells! It was always a thrill to see a UFO in the sky... and then to shoot it down with a slingshot.

Aesthetically, NL is certainly more attractive. I do enjoy the new features, the new characters and shops and the little extra touches in the game that make it fun and surprising but, even so, there were things in WW that I miss.

I will always have a bit of a special place in my heart for Wild World, since I had it for so long.
