Okay lets say I preorder it on eshop right now, will I be able to play it directly at midnight or will it start downloading at midnight and take a few hours??

I believe the preload dropped today? If you bought the digital version you are able to install it now & play when it drops.

This is correct. If you purchase the digital version today through the eShop, then it will pre-install on your system, today, and all the system will have to do at midnight EST on 3/20 is ping Nintendo to "unlock" your game. I'm hoping it's one of those that releases at the same time in the US, which means when I go to fire up the game at 9p PST on 3/19, it'll start right up.

This had me thinking. I wonder if I’d like it more for it to be daytime when I first start. Maybe I will advance my system clock a bit so it won’t be so late to start. I was already pretty much considering this because I work nights and am up mostly at night. Sorry random thoughts from this OP.

You probably will be able to play at midnight on March 20th, but like, if there are any shops there you might have to wait for them to open. I mean, I'll be playing around 6 in the morning or earlier, depending on how early I wake up, since I don't have school that day. The only shop we've seen right now is the resident services shop, which will hopefully be open 24/7.

i'd assume there would be a option to change the in game clock to whenever u want tho (I time travel bc I like to play for hours at a time)

That is exactly what will happen. As someone who?s now preloaded multiple Switch games from Nintendo, I have done it more than once now.

Anyone downloading the game from the North American eShop will be able to launch the game with a short ping-check online (note day-one patches can add to the time, but generally still short) at 12:00 AM Eastern Time. I live in Central Time and have been able to launch Nintendo?s games at 11:00 PM, one hour before the official release day my time.

Fantastic news, thank you!

West Coast Best Coast once again

(joking. In-n-Out isn't even that good.)

If you preloaded it on the eShop, you can play it as soon as it goes live as long as you can connect to the internet to activate it.

If it's a physical copy, you can play it as soon as you get a copy of the game.

Gosh I really want to play as soon as possible but I don't want to arrive on my island at night, hopefully I'll be able to wait a couple of hours, I know already that i'm just going to lie awake all night :p

I've already booked the day off. It's a tough decision to sleep through the launch, but I'm compromising by waking up at 6am.
