if i do, it won't be for a while. trying to save for something else right now, and the game doesn't interest me enough to dip into that. i'd rather buy princess peach showtime. (and i'll be done saving for the 'something else' by then.) i have been wanting a more traditional mario platformer for a while because odyssey was too open world for me -- i preferred 3D world -- but the power-ups just don't vibe with me, so it's something i'll either skip altogether or buy secondhand in a year. we'll see!
I am and it's so much fun! I really like how you can play with people worldwide and see their little ghostly characters run wild. It's a little distracting and chaotic, so usually I play the map alone the first time and replay it online. Some of them wait for you which is cute while others just rocketship across the map (which is terrifying). I had a few of them just watch me while I tried to figure out a puzzle, lol.
I got it two days ago and completed everything. It’s solid but definitely feels like a kids’ game in some areas, like really made expressly for kids, particularly the handholdiness of the textboxes and some level design
Controversial take but I must say for the sake of comparison… I really dislike Odyssey and I can clearly see some of its level design fingerprints in Wonder which I also really dislike. Mario is rarely difficult but they ramped it up this gen, in Odyssey and this game it feels like they’re trying to pass off tutorial-level gameplay as mainstream content- much moreso in Odyssey though, Wonder is more generally a bit too easy rather than point A to B without any actual obstacles like in most of Odyssey, but there are still some transformations and sections that just feel like point A to B. At least Wonder also feels like it wants to nudge you into potential challenges more with the badges, a lot more enticing than the repetitive movement combos in Odyssey for me
That was kind of negative though so what I liked… definitely a life to it yeah. This doesn’t have the level of silent storytelling in some other platformers I’ve played (see Tropical Freeze for how to do that) but there is a great attention to detail otherwise, asset layouts made everything feel unique, love the dynamic sound, there are some inventive ideas even if the game doesn’t always use them that well. And while the game is a bit too easy it was still dense enough to keep me engaged for a good chunk of the playtime. I also liked the options for different levels on the map, badges, etc., I felt like I genuinely had cool choices for when my mood shifted
btw that was like 15 hours, don’t expect a long game, lol. It’s really weird such a short game felt like it had a bit of filler with some of the dumber design bits, but overall I walk away feeling good about it. The final level was actually great, and I appreciate their effort to breathe some life into Mario, this game genuinely feels different for him
I picked it up but haven't opened it yet. I'm not big on blazing through games so I'll probably open it and play a world or two in the next couple days.
Definitely! Not in a rush to buy it, though, as I’m playing other games at the moment. I have it on hold at the library so hopefully in a couple months the game will reach me. The gameplay looks exciting and I’m always charmed by Mario titles.
!! I really like the simpler, more straightforward Mario games that focus mainly on platforming. I know a lot of people don't like the NSMB formula due to staleness, which is fair, but I can't help but like the more casual feel of them
That being said, it seems that this game is doing its best to NOT be stale, so this is a pick-up for me for sure
I'd love to get it, but I'm planning to wait because I'm cheap and often get gift vouchers for Christmas (and also have a lot of other games I want to play)
I don’t think I will as side scrolling platformers have never been my thing. I owned New Super Mario Bros on DS at one time and never got very far in it.
While I must say this new one looks really awesome and a nice change up for fans of the original style of Mario games. Which is good cause from what I heard they were getting pretty stale. I’m glad people are enjoying it.
I'll definitely be getting it! I recently bought the new Detective Pikachu game, so I'm not in a rush. I definitely have the itch to try it and am excited to do so
I didn't grow up with much experience playing platforming games, tending to stick to other genres, and I've never really developed a knack for platforming. That said, I'm somewhat tempted by Super Mario Wonder because of the inclusion of Daisy as a playable character. I've always liked Daisy and her finally being among the options in the platforming games is kind of a draw, honestly.
I'm still undecided. I got some Mario game for free back on the Wii U a few years ago (I think it might be New Super Mario Bros. U but I'd have to check to be sure), maybe I'll play that a bit, try to practice and see if I think I'm actually up to getting Super Mario Wonder.
My best friend and I started playing on Saturday. It’s fantastic - the level design, the new enemies and the wonder seed effects are all top notch. We’re having a ton of fun with it, and it’s clear how much love and attention went into this game.
The one massive flaw with this game, however, is the local co-op camera. It is SO unforgiving - the camera doesn’t zoom out at all, so the moment you fall off screen you become a ghost. Camera control is assigned to one specific player, which is not necessarily who’s leading (which is ROUGH in vertical areas - if you have camera control and you fall, you’re taking everyone down with you). I’d say 75% of our deaths were because someone fell out of or got pushed out of the camera view and couldn’t ghost back fast enough. It’s been a long time since we played NSMBU & NSLU together, but I don’t remember the camera being this aggressive.
I already had, and I already beat the final boss. Now my goal is to 100% the whole game, and after that IDK, I may just put the game down and do some NH/MK8DX as I usually do OOR help others in need where they're just beginning their journey. That's something I'm going to do this Christmas as I'll be more experienced where others wouldn't.
