Something I am slightly concerned about is whether the new online membership fees will negatively impact our community. Animal Crossing is a game that you can easily play without other people. I played New Leaf for years without ever partaking in the online community. Because of this, I suspect some players who would have otherwise started playing online will simply never bother to avoid paying the fees.

I understand this sample is flawed because everyone here is already part of the online community. I just wanted to know the proportion of players here who will be part of it.

I'll get it as there's no other option.
I do think it'll decrease online users, but not by much as payed online isn't all too uncommon anymore.

If I end up getting a switch, I'll have to consider buying it but I'll probably have to to make the most of the game

I definitely will be getting the membership because online play is unfortunately not free anymore. When you consider the cost in comparison to Xbox Live and PSN though, I don't think it is too bad especially if you have a group of friends to share a family plan with to split the cost! xD

I already have an online membership since I play a lot of Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe online. When Animal Crossing comes it, it just gives me more reason to keep the online membership running and justify the amount it costs due to the use I'll get out of it!

Depends on the online features.
I do mind paying for that tho as I'm not a huge fan of playing online. But if it's worth it, why not.

Btw, is it possible that they offer online features for free? Because in New Leaf and other AC games, the online features were fairly basic. Paying a membership just to chat online would be pretty weird as you can do it for free on your computer since like 90's?

I don't have it yet, but I also haven't needed it for any of the games I own. I probably won't buy it until the first time I actually need it, either.

Not sure what you mean by that - being able to visit other towns and play together with others isn't really a basic feature. Stuff like the best friends feature would be a nice add-on, but they're not the main reason people would want to play online. I'm not sure they don't allow games to have mixed online features, where some are free and some are subscription-only, but visiting other towns and receiving visitors will definitely require a subscription.

I'll probably buy the online membership when the new AC game comes out, but for now, I'm not. To be honest, I'm still thinking about it really.

The service is still underwhelming and we don't really know for sure how AC Switch would be impacted exactly. I barely go online anyways.

I already have online, despite not having an internet connection. Somebody else bought it for me so my son could play the NES games, $20 a year is very affordable, even though the service sucks right now. I have no interest in online play. I didn't play online in New Leaf until late 2016 when I joined here. That was about 4 years of playing all by myself. I already had a ton of money, gold catalog, most unorderables, completed museum, mansion... I'm used to playing this way because of starting with the GameCube. Online is too distracting. I'm a completionist and don't like getting help from others, it feels like cheating. I'll go online eventually if there's something I can't get (like region exclusive items)

Plans are to buy it once I know how Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee works.
Need it for trading.
For AC Switch I'll need it to visit my online friends group.

I picked "when the game is released" but it's more likely "when Animal Crossing Switch AND Pokemon Gen 8 are both out." I would want to get the most bang for my subscription buck, so I'd rather wait for both games to be out. I have a feeling AC Switch will be out before Pokemon, so I'll just have fun doing what I can by myself until Pokemon comes out. Then I will get a subscription.

I already had to get online for splatoon 2, so I already have it, but we don’t know if ac for switch will use Nintendo online (more then likely it will)

I already use it. I play a lot Splatoon 2 online and even if it sucks to pay for the online service, I don't
want to renounce it. So yeah, I will buy it also for Animal Crossing (and Smash).
