Hi guys! Just wanted to say I'm a little worried that I'm not gonna like New Horizons, or even maybe be disappointed with it. Any like minded people? I always liked Animal Crossing for its "life/social sim" vibe but I'm worried from what we've seen too far it's just become another cute town builder?

Anyone else the same?

(Still gonna buy it tho 🤣)

I would have to disagree, it seems as though they are simply adding on to what the games have had in previous games of the series. If anything that should jut make it better. The game always felt like a town builder first anyways. I mean, isn't that the goal in all of the games? To establish yourself on a plot of land and grow it into a beautiful towns? Social/life sim always seemed like it came in second to me.

Not really. Crafting is completely optional. Before that, we had to be lucky and hope that the furniture we want is available today because items in shops are rotated daily. This gives us an option to have those items immediately. Also, if all they added to the game was outside furniture, that's easily another 100 hours for me.

I would just wait till they give the people a deeper look into the game, you know with more gameplay
and explain certain things, how the new features works and so on. I for myself like what we saw so far
and even if it seems that NH is different than other AC games, I'm pretty sure you will still get the typical
Animal Crossing vibe from this game.

I actually like what Animal Crossing is becoming. The idea of a more custom town is a good idea, as it’s better than what we had for a long time. Even in New Leaf, customizing towns is still limited. You may still have some traditional features, but I’ve been more of a person that likes custom features.

I was worried before the E3 trailer and the Treehouse presentation. I am not worried anymore. If anything, I'm hopeful.

I agree somewhat. I don’t mind the creative aspects, I’m just worried they’re focusing on them too much and letting the social sim aspects fall to the wayside. I’m really crossing my fingers for good dialogue, because that’s a big aspect of the games’ charm for me. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess.

I guess if perfect towns is your thing, but the early games were not town builders at all. Only New Leaf really pushed the franchise in this direction, and New Horizons looks like it will moreso. Again, this is fine, as long as they don’t ignore the building relationships with your villagers.

I was extremely disappointed with the game during my first viewing of the trailer. Not so much anymore. I am still bummed over the "Island" idea. I don't care for it. Also, I kind of wish the map was bigger than what we saw at E3. Last but not least, I am disappointed that the game will have autosave taking away our freedom of playing as we want.

The way the trailer was set up, it didn't seem like animal crossing. Especially when they did the stop motion of the player cleaning up outside the tent, and setting up a camp. This may have had a physiological effect on me. I'm thinking it's because the camera stays in one place. Maybe that's why I felt disheartened during the first trailer viewing.

This. I have always played Animal Crossing as a relaxing way to indulge in a cute little environment that didn't have direction and whatnot. I've always described it as an 'experience' rather than a 'game' because thats what, at least, the earlier games were.

I'm disappointed that this will be a 'build your own town, make it beautiful!' than 'live your life in this world full of crazy animals that drop their mittens everywhere for some reason.' The joy I get from Animal Crossing is one of relaxing and just letting the days/hours/whatever tick by. I dont NEED furniture immediately, cause you know what, maybe it'll be there the next day and it's that relaxed, casual, unexpected and amusing side of these games that always hooked me. I'm worried the personality of the game will be lost if they shift to a more 'create a town/island' and I just think it will lose a lot of heart and become more of a game to play (no doubt a fun one,) and less of a unique experience.

I never played the games before New Leaf, so honestly I think I've always seen the appeal of New Leaf as being able to decorate your house and town and the real time clock, having to wait for things daily and fill up the museum, etc. But if it didn't have the whole decorating your town aspect to it, I don't believe I would have liked it as much. I'm not a *huge* fan of the crafting, since I don't like the idea of shopping or crafting through a menu, but it's a change I can live with. Everything else is amazing. Being able to make the town more custom, have more decorating options etc, that's what I really want. And if they just make sure the animal interactions aren't as watered down like it was in New Leaf, it would be the perfect game, absolutely. So I'm really very happy with it. I can't wait to play through it daily and just discover how the town grows slowly and just live a happy life in a town I create. Hehe

I’d be lying to myself if I didn’t admit to having had those thoughts initially.

My biggest hopes for the new game were deeper relationships and more interactions with/between Villagers, so what was shown at E3 definitely disappointed me at first. Even as someone dedicated to town design and aesthetics, the heavy focus on customization worried me as well:
Centering the entire Treehouse gameplay around collecting materials and crafting really rubbed me the wrong way—it put all the emphasis on the “materialistic” side of the game without showing much of the charm imo.

In my case though, the disappointment came less from hating the changes, but instead from being underwhelmed by them. I don’t inherently mind crafting being introduced; I’m not against expanding the multiplayer experience—they’re just not features I need or feel particular excitement for.

In the end, I’ve just taken a step away from that first impression.
I was underwhelmed, sure, but I still look forward to the game and have hope that I’ll ultimately get the experience I want from AC. Seeing others excitement here—and focusing on the aspects I do enjoy—has definitely helped me stay optimistic! There’s still a lot of time, and a lot to learn about NH after all.

At this point I'm being open-minded. I think they'll surprise us with a lot of new things. :)

...

honestly i'm tired of everyone saying they're dissapointed with the new game or worried lol. the game hasn't even been released so we can not build an accurate opinion of this game. BUT with this being said, i still disagree with you lol

i think the social aspect of animal crossing is set in stone and amazing. yes, the animals could have more unique dialogue or this and that blah blah. but that's what the new game is for. i think nintendo is gonna remember what animal crossing is and always has been and stay true to that concept. i think that them improving upon the creative aspect of this game is necessary (and to some, ac is a town builder game haha) but while they're improving heavily on this side of things, i strongly doubt they'll forget about what animal crossing is and abandon the social aspects lol.

I'm only worried about the actual size of the island and how many shops and facilities we have the option to build on it. And whether or not if there will be a "main street" like area. I'm pretty sure there will be because if the only area we could go to was our own island that would be very disappointing and a downgrade from new leaf.

I guess I'm worried about if the villagers will have more dialogue and be more true to their personalities. I don't really have faith on them to make it right so it's not really a big stresser of mine.

I've played every Animal Crossing game in existence besides Amiibo Festival (because we don't think about that monstrosity at all lol)
I know I'm going to like it, I definitely will. But I just don't like the crafting aspect to it; though it's fine because it's just an optional thing. I'm excited to see how it works though :) Change is amazing~

I'm trying to grasp what it is you're disappointed with but I don't understand :(

my understanding of it is, they like the social aspects of animal crossing (the dialogues with characters, improving relationships, and the main point of the game being to relax in a town with your villagers) and they’re worried that with new horizons, the developers but too much focus on crafting and town-building.
i think that’s a good point but! town building is completely optional, as even the developers said that you could leave your island barebones and still have fun. they had to make this game different than the other ones and to do that, they implemented more ways to be creative with your town and have more diversity. but while these features are there, they’re still completely optional and you could choose to not craft anything at all!

i still think that even though we might be “worried” about the new game, it’s gonna stay true to the past animal crossing games and we’re still gonna have fun.

Idk, it looks amazing to me, and we KNOW theyre not showing us all of the features or anything yet, so there’s going to be so much more to be excited about. They probably showed us maybe 2% of the changes/updates made to the game and theyre still continuing to work on it. I’m sure it will be mind-blowing.

Animal Crossing's dialogue has always been one of its key features, and I have a strong feeling it isn't going to change. They have very large teams dedicated to translating. I recently read that New Leaf has more dialogue than the Bible, and more than all the Harry Potter books combined. Source

I was quite surprised on how much they changed it and when they introduced crafting. I didn't have the same thoughts as you, but instead didn't have any at all. I believe there will still be building friendships and all the other things Animal Crossing has always had, so try not to worry too much. If they wanted to change a big aspect of the game, they would have already, but they didn't. All they are doing is just adding on and introducing some more new things. I actually like the game a lot right now even though it's not out yet. :)
