Alright time to talk about a lot of characters from the 90s reboot legion of superheroes because I love them
So starting off with Gates who is a character who came around in this version. Gates is my favorite for a number of reasons; he has a very neat design, his concept is interesting in that he is the only unwilling member of the legion, his power of teleportation I think is super neat, and he's a socialist bug who's bitter towards humanoids which is a huge mood.
He also has a lot of interesting stories. In the reboot he got trapped in "our time" (worth noting that legion of superheroes takes place in the 31st century), which proved to have a lot of interesting interactions in being a non humanoid alien on an Earth where that's not as accepted yet. In a time travel/manipulation story, he also gets placed in the 60s during the cold war, which serves as being one of my favorite stories in that it's hilarious to see a character who's a socialist that looks like a monster placed in that situation.
He's probably one of my favorite characters of all time ngl
Then another character I love is Triad. She legitimately is one of the best rep I have seen for multiple systems and I don't think that was even intentional. Triad is of a species that triplicate themselves, but the duplicates don't typically act any differently from one another. With Triad however, they all act differently and the three are shown to have differing opinions, personalities, etc. They even get into fights and severe disagreements at certain times. This is also addressed in her backstory, as the triplicates being different people is considered to be extremely bad on their home planet, and it's shown that them growing up as different people cased many issues for them growing up. I drew a lot of parallels between my system and even real world ableism.
Again I don't know if Triad was intention and I kind of doubt she was, but she is still one of my favorite plural coded characters in that she's a superhero who plays an important role on the team and her plurality isn't a one off thing and is addressed in most stories she's centered around. I kind of want to buy some of the comics she's in because not gonna lie, she really helped us accept being plural.
then it also made it even worse when the current run of the legion started off with an ableist stereotype and they aren't three separate people anymore but one person who can just triplicate. bendis, how dare you
I also want to mention Invisible Kid and Brainiac 5. Both are characters I like individually
granted everyone loves Brainiac 5 for some reason, and in this version they actually develop feelings for eachother. It's a kind of cool rivals to lovers relationship that I wish was shown more before the series was canceled. Invisible Kid's a character I like the personality of and Brainiac 5 is a neat character, and they are kind of cool together in both being the team's scientists but in different ways. I like both of them individually, and I think they're adorable together
Special shoutout to Ferro, XS, and Sensor who are characters I also like and could gush on but this is getting long enough
Though if anyone wants to read this version of the Legion, as a heads up they did this weird thing where the stories went between two different comic series? And didn't even start until different issues in. As much as I love and recommend the 90s legion, it is extremely confusing to read rip
