So last week, I decided that I'd actually try to finish my fish/bug/diving encyclopedia's. I'm pretty much finished for the month I'm in, except for one fish that's exclusively on the island, but it's an all year/all day fish, so I'm not worried about that. Another one is the Coelacanth, and it's hardly ever raining anymore, so I'm going to TT to the rainy season for that one. BUT THE GAR. I have caught so many fricken Arapaima that it's getting to be ridiculous. I've tried for a few days to catch this "elusive" fish, but I just keep getting Arapaima! The Gar doesn't sell as much, so I figured it would be fairly easy to find. In my other town, as soon as I set out to find the Gar, I found it. It was the first fish I caught (not in the whole game, but when I went to catch it specifically). I don't understand why it's so hard to find now... I'm playing during the time it's supposed to be around and I'm pacing back and forth along the river, scaring away any fish that isn't large or huge. I even go inside and reset the fish/bug spawn every time I get a handful of fish.

Is there a bug/fish/sea creature that you've been after that you just can't seem to find whatsoever?

I don't think it has to be the rainy season to catch a coelacanth. I caught one for the first time (on two of my characters) about a month ago

All I have left to catch are a housefly, a saddled birchir, a giant snakehead, a spiny lobster, and a giant isopod, all of which I'm having trouble finding.

Well it has to be raining/snowing so I figured it'd be easiest to go back to the rainy season, since after July it doesn't rain too often, or at least at the times I usually play at. Plus, I'm scared to go any time past November/before February because I don't want my dirt paths to go away. ;~; In which case would make it super difficult for me to catch a dung beetle since they only appear pushing snowballs around... :p

Also, I've caught 2 more arapaima since posting this... And a dorado...

Spiders and bagworms. I don't understand why they're so hard for me to find, I've been stung by bees so, so many times. I've finally caught a bagworm and given it to the museum, but spider and tarantula are the only bugs I'm missing now, but I'll have to wait till summer to catch them.

Yeah, see the tarantula is something that's difficult to catch. I thought I would be trying to catch the scorpion and tarantula for a while, but luckily, they both appeared outside of my house after I had been inside for a second, and I had my bug net in my hands already.

Add YET ANOTHER arapaima and dorado... grrrr...

I FINALLY CAUGHT IT. I ended up going to the next day and started at the time they start coming out, and I was pretty much prepared to pace up and down the river from 4pm-9am the next morning. (Not exactly for that long, but close to it, lol.)

The gar was the last fish I caught too. It only appears in the big pond in the river, so it sounds like you wasted a lot of time fishing in the wrong spots.
