You can't place a path between your house's door and mailbox?

I can put paths right up to the door of my house and the opposite side of the mailbox but not between door and the mailbox itself? Unlike what this picture shows from Nintendo:

The game won't let me do that.

I think you have to pick up your mailbox, apply the pattern, and then put it back afterwards. I had the same issues with trees on the dirt pattern. It would have a blocky grass cut around it. I had to pick up all my trees, put the dirt path, and then replant my tree.

Yes it unlocks after you expand your house to a certain size. You use "Y" to pick it up though, you don't push it like other items.

You can pic up the mailbox - but only after the you expanded your house a lot... I think three or four updates where needed.

I am pretty sure that they changed that last minute because they feared that new players would just pick up the mailbox and never replace it. So they only allowed more advanced players to do so.

Meaning that the picture above shows something that isn´t possible in the game. The house is not expanded enogh.
