Your opinions on single-mattress beds?

I feel like there isn?t much support in a single mattress bed. They sink a lot and bend. The boxspring gives it that extra comfort that?s needed.

That's only if you have the classic metal frame that literally has no bottom so a box spring is mandatory. If you have a bed frame that has an actual bottom to it, then it's not an issue.

I've been using a single mattress for about 20 years now. No issues with sinking or bending. You just need the frame that specifically supports doing that.

Almost everyone I know has a box spring base, they're extremely common here. I haven't really known otherwise to be honest haha. My mattress itself is a queen with latex foam, which supposedly doesn't deform as much compared to other foam types. I think I've had it for maybe around 9 years, and out of all the beds we've replaced (like my parents and brothers bed) I think it's been the most well-performing one and it's the comfiest one too. They're rather expensive though (although they've probably come down in price compared to when I got mine).

Is a double mattress set up an American thing? lmao.

one is fine.

I think what people are referencing to is if you've got a mattress and box-spring base (2 mattresses) or just a mattress and some sort of frame/foundation. Not two mattresses stacked upon each other?

I prefer to have the box spring, but I've slept on single mattresses without even a frame (like, just directly on the floor) before and it's not that terrible.

i don't really care if it's single or double, as long as i can sleep on it

I definitely prefer having a box spring, but if you get a frame with good slats it can be pretty good too. Keep in mind that prices listed for frames are usually using the cheapest slats which often break easily and make the bed way less comfortable. I'm thinking of IKEA beds specifically. In the end you might not end up saving that much money when you compare the real prices and factor in replacements etc.

Edit: lol I just realized how old this thread is, you should update us on what you bought

Yeah, old thread but here’s my two cents, I’ve recently started using a daybed with a twin regular Casper mattress - AS MY COUCH and it is very comfortable... But my regular beds have always been box spring mattress sets and so now having experience with both I can honestly say you can’t go wrong with either.

Afaik I've only ever slept on single matress beds. What's important for me is that the matress is a bit hard and sturdy. If it's too soft it leads to back and neck pains for me which are REALLY bad if you have business to attend to early in the morning oofies...

Honestly just figure out what kind of matress is what you like and don't be afraid to spend a bit more on it. I know you said that you're on a budget but good sleep is very important to your health and you should get a good matress that doesn't deform after half a year of use.

Btw I'm loving that bed's design! I'm moving out myself in about a month so I'm looking for nice furniture for in my apartment here and there, didn't expect I'd get inspiration from TBT wow
