Since you're just a beginner, I reccomend staying farther away from everyone and up high, but don't go in the typical charger spots, like the tower in Blackbelly Skatepark, the middle platform in Walleye Warehouse, etc. or any predictable place where it's easy for the other team to splat you. It's ok to go to those spots once in a while, but try to go to different places throughout the match so you're opponents won't know where to try to get you next. Once you get more experienced with chargers you might be able to snipe on the ground too.

Oh, thanks! I'm definetly not the best at chargers, but I'll try to give you some advice.

First, you likely know by now that close-range is a sniper's weakness, since it's so hard to aim.
That's why many chargers come with things like bombs and Kraken. Use them!
However, you only have so much ink you can use for your subs, and your special isn't always ready. If you find yourself stuck in a close range situation, just try your best to repeatedly fire uncharged shots, because three direct hits can actually splat someone, although it's hard to aim so it'll likely end badly for you.
