Sneak Peek of Chapter 19:
Mrs. Greene joined Mr. Greene at the breakfast table, the food already eaten and taken away, and a sort of awkward tension filled the air. She twiddled her thumbs in anticipation while the other continued to read his morning newspaper. She studied his face for any sign of the emotion he was currently going through. Unfortunately, his face was as blank as a fresh sheet of paper. There were no signs of what he was thinking about and that made her even more nervous.
After a few tense moments of silence, he finally set down his newspaper, took a deep breath, and turned to face her. "You know I didn't mean to hit you, right?" He reached out with his hand and gently touched her bruise, which had faded away a bit but was still very much present. "Emily, you're the love of my life. I only wanted the best for our family, for us, for you."
