If there was any doubt left from IGNs confirmation, this will probably clear that up. Bleh.

I assumed this would be the case from the mat on Isabelle's desk, but I'm not gonna lie, I'm a tad disappointed. It's such a big island, and I'm definitely gonna be the only human there, so... That's 11 residents. Yeek.

i am super okay with 10 villagers!!!! will give me a lot more room to build them unique backyards and other outdoor things!

The island isn't much bigger than New Leaf's town. Only an extra 6 acres (NL; 30 / NH; 36).

I’m not too disappointed, but only because I already made peace with it a long time ago ;ェ; Seeing the nice models and level of detail to their animations makes up for it a bit.

To be fair though, certain areas of my NL town already felt too empty for my preferences.

At least it seems like the villagers will disperse more across the map as they go about their day, so it might look a bit livelier due to that.

This was how I felt about it. Like I said, I'm the only human in town, and in New Leaf, all my villagers tended to cluster together in the south and eastern parts of town. In New Horizons, I'm going to be doing that on purpose. I do hope they wander a little further from home, though.

+1. Since we are getting up to 4 more player houses (for a total of 8), I don't think we really have room for more villagers.

Realistically though, how many 8 person families (or friend groups I guess) are going to be playing together?? Not saying there aren’t any, but at that point they’ll already have a pretty “crowded” experience sharing the game with so many people.
An additional two villagers wouldn’t make much of a difference to their map, and be nice for the vast majority who are playing alone or with only a few extra characters.

And how many people on here have had alts in New Leaf? Lots, from what I recall. Would be no different from New Horizons.

would have liked more villagers than more players, but i'm fine with 10 as long as they walk around more than stay within a few feet of their area lol. would have preferred 12, but :~)

That’s why I said “playing alone or with a few extra characters”.
In the thread about how many alts people would be making, the responses ranged from 0-6, with the vast majority being quite a bit below 5.

We had alts for pattern storage lol

Can confirm, I literally made a side character in New Leaf and put the house in the most remote, out of the way corner of my town, specifically for this purpose. Pattern and item storage.

Was hoping for a bit more than 10 myself (12 like others have said). Not because I want the town to be more lively, but because I have too many favorite villagers and possible new favorites to decide. Unfortunate but I'll manage. I just hope there will be some way to permanently keep villagers or an easier way to keep them from moving out once all your favorites are in. That was one of my biggest peeves with NL
