2024 Community Time Capsule: Dear Future TBT

Hey, TBTers!

I hope you're all working together still, dusting away at each others' posts! I'm curious what new events will pop up, and which will be our favorites. I hope to see many of you again in another 10 years, and maybe even some older faces returning! If so, I hope we're still trading together!

See you around!

Dear Future TBT!

I hope this finds you well, 10 years in the future. Think of Doc Brown and Marty delivering this to you, or is that too old of a reference now?

I hope you're all well though and thriving. TBT is an excellent example of a wholesome and wonderful community. I remember back in 2020 when COVID was keeping most of us at home and we were all glued to ACNH, everyone wanted items, fruit, bells, villagers etc, and of all the communities I was in at the time, TBT was, and is, the best.

Kindness makes the world go round, and it costs nothing to be kind. I hope that everyone here is still wholesome, and kind. I hope that when the next AC game comes out, and possibly the next after that, TBT is still here, and still an awesome place for community and creativity. I hope to see you all there, and myself.

Take care TBT, and see you in 2034!

dear future tbt,

i'm actually coming up on my on my 6th year anniversary on tbt in a few days and the years have really flown by. a lot has changed here (i'm actually rocking the 2010s forum style right now and i still can't believe how different it is and how much i missed it!) i wonder if the next installment of animal crossing will bring a big influx of users like new horizons did...i remember being active back when it first released and everything felt like it was bustling and moving so fast! it was exciting times! the lead up to it was fun too! i loved trading and selling items back when new leaf still had online play.

i know i already asked this on the google forums survey but what's the market/tier list like in the future? i wonder how many new collectibles have been added since writing this. i was wondering too if i'd still even be active to see all the changes and everything in 10 years. that feels like such a long time from now but who knows, maybe by then 2034 digimon will be writing about what 2044 tbt might look like? i can't even wrap my head around that to imagine it... it feels so far off and unreal!

Dear Future TBT
WOO! Ten years into the future … I probably won’t be here!
But, if I am, I am dying to know about the new Animal Crossing game!! (Because I don't ever plan to quit playing!) no matter how geriatric I may become!
It was playing Animal Crossing that brought me to this wonderful forum and it will be Animal Crossing that keeps me here, I’m sure!
I don’t know how many of my contemporary Belltree members will still be here, but please, if you remember The Pen, think of me kindly!
I blow you a kiss and a hug!!
The Pennifer

Dear future tbt,

Is the new Animal Crossing good? I sure hope it is! Hopefully by now we have tons of new multiplayer options. I also hope visiting islands doesn't take like 5 minutes per person. Maybe its near instant now! Speaking of which, who is the new animal everyone's crazy over? Did something top putting Raymond in a maid outfit?

Also, did you know him?

Dear future tbt,

10 years in the future. it seems like a long time, but when I think about 10 years in the past it seems like nothing. it feels like yesterday that I played new leaf for the first time, counting down the days until it’s release. the memories and friends I made on that game and this site will be some of my fondest for the rest of my life. I’m not super active here anymore, but this site pretty much raised me and it will always mean the world to me. I was 13 when I joined, I’m 23 now and I’ll be 33 when I read this again. I wonder how much the site and animal crossing will have changed by then? I hope it stays just as active as I remember it being when I was a lonely kid trying to find my place in the world. the people on this site shaped my entire future, encouraged me not to give up on art and go to art school. thank you for everything and I hope this site continues to inspire many other people in the next 10 years <3

Dear Future TBT Members,

Have there been more cat collectibles added? Is there a plague doctor plush collectible yet?

How is the new Switch? Is the internet connection better than the first Switch?

How is the new Animal Crossing? Did they put more effort in this game than they did in New Horizons? Has Gracie made a comeback and her items and clothes look as good or better than they looked in New Leaf? How is the dialogue?

I hope there had been good changes to both the forums and the animal crossing game and that I’m still active here.

Dear future TBT,

10 years from now is a pretty long time... Most importantly I hope that I, all of you and the forums are still here by than, in reasonably good health.
I wonder what cool new collectibles there are, and what vintage collectibles are still popular (plushies? wands?)?
I wonder if there are still of lot of the same people around that I see around now? Am I even around? (if not, someone please find me and get me back to the forums pronto!)

I also reaallyy wonder when the latest animal crossing game is by then? Will there have been 1 new big one? or 2? Do people even still play animal crossing? Is it better or worse?

How is the world operating now? Better or worse? Maybe thats not even defineable... it probably just different, and we eventually all get used to changes.

Thanks for everything the last 10 years TBT, and hopefully to the next 10!

To future TBTers I've yet to meet,

How's the forum looking in your time? Have you been having fun? Are the events still kicking? (Is Mistreil still an agent of chaos?) I hope you all really enjoy the forums. Have any of the collectibles been reran? Has the Goose Plush been released to the public? How many Community Collectibles are there? And, most importantly, how is the new Animal Crossing? Is it fun? How many returning villagers are there? Is there online play? If so, did Nintendo fix their servers?
I hope you guys love the forums as much as I do. Even though it's more advanced than it was back during these days, the one thing that never changes is the wonderful community. Stay gold, TBT. Stay Gold.

From,
ShinyDungeoneer

Dear 2034 TBT,

Here's hoping that we all stuck around, and are now enjoying:
  • A brand new installment of Animal Crossing (or maybe even two by now!) with interactive outdoor items, complex dialogue trees, more than ten villagers per town, and most importantly Woolio.
  • A rich yearly calendar of exciting forum events--especially the summer camps
  • A healthy, thriving online community where members support each other, cheer each other on, and nobody has to spend real money or reveal any personal information
I hope I'm still around in 2034, on TBT and in real life. If I'm no longer active, I hope you're all still finding solace in this little corner of the internet. Thanks for offering me some respite in a tumultuous world for these past 10 years.

Dear future TBT,

Wow, it's crazy to image how much might have changed by the time this is read. I hope it is read, and that this site manages to still hang around. It's such a nice corner of the internet right now.
There will always be drama, conflict and issues, but is it still a nice community environment?
I wonder how many of us will still be active by then. I wonder if any of you reading this have seen me around or recognise my name? Or any of the names in this thread for that matter.
Do our manner of speaking sound old or cringey to you guys? "oh that was SO written in the 2020's, just look at the way they write!!" ...now I feel prematurely old HAH

I wonder what new forum inside jokes have been made, and how many from today are still used? Obviously zipper is ongoing, but some other common references right now are mirrors (kracko, butterfly peach, kakashi in front of the eiffel tower, etc.) alien babies, turnip NFTs, moo moo, baby park, pleek, hmm my brain's gone blank.

Are they still making ac games? By the time this is read.. I'd maybe guess 1, or just 2 more main series games?? Did they lose popularity, or did the attention gained by the pandemic result in a lasting increase in ac sales? Right now people are waiting for the "switch 2" announcement, which is meant to be in the next couple months. Was the console a success?

And how about the staff? I wonder if any retire by now, tbh I wouldn't be surprised.

How many different tbt fairs have there been by now? Was there ever a underwater themed fair? Did they ever do a repeat theme? Or have they stopped doing the fairs altogether? Also the egg hunts.

How many collectibles are there now?? Has it caused any issues?
Did they ever implement QoL stuff for lineup making, like collectible grouping, folders, or a lineup previewer so you don't have to keep reloading a separate page to check on your lineup? I really hope lineups stay 5x2.

But I hope the forums have remained a safe corner of the internet, filled with kind, amazing people, both old and new.

To future TBTers! List of things I hope we still enjoy in 2034:

*Hide and seek! Would be fantastic to be able to really experience VR hide and seek on each other's islands. If not developed yet- at the very least, I hope the camera in animal crossing 2034 is able to face all directions, and the connectivity is a bit improved. 😅

*Amongus! Omg can you imagine a VR amongus? The terror. 😱

*Dusting events! May these always be a part of TBT. ✨

*Community involved egg hunts and puzzles, the harder the better! Working together to solve tough puzzles is such a great experience. (Please don't hide an egg in this capsule for 10 years, lol.)

*Community art events! Really hope canvas crossing type event carries forward.

*What new horrific forms has Zipper morphed into? What new horrific mirrors are you solving in 2034?

*New members joining, old members sticking around, awesome events, and fabulous collectibles. Btw- how is the collectible market doing? How much is my nft turnip going to be worth in 2034? 😄

*I can't wait to see who wins TBT history trivia 2034 and earns these extremely generous gifts:

Dear TBT,
Happy 30th Birthday!!! Are you still that wholesome, sweet place on the wide web? You must be! If you’re still here I’m sure of it.
Let me guess: are social media total garbage by now?

Which collectibles are the hottest right now? How many TBT do they cost?
What new features does the forum have?
What events are still returning? And what hasn’t happened for years?
How many users have joined in the last 10 years?
How many Animal Crossing games have come out in the past decade?
Any big changes to game mechanics?

Am I still active?
How many long breaks have I taken?
What avatar do I have now?
Did I manage to lurk less and post more?
What’s my post count? Right now I’m just a few posts away from a thousand.

TBT, I’m wishing you many, many more wonderful years. You're the best.

To future TBTers,

I hope TBT is a safe space for you like it was/has been for me and so many others. I hope it's a warm hug for you on your worst days and a community to rejoice in on your best. I can imagine that TBT and its community will have changed a lot by 2034, but I hope that even if everything looks different and there are more new faces than old, that TBT is still the same kind haven that I cherish at its core. <3

Thinking about a whole decade from now is terrifying, but I'm excited for TBT's future, and I hope that I'm still active here to see it! I hope to be here when the Switch 2 and the next Animal Crossing game are announced (how many of you reading this in 10 years joined because of it?). I hope to be here for future forum events—I'm especially excited for future TBT Fairs and Easter Egg Hunts! I hope to be here to see all the new collectibles that release between now and TBT's 30th birthday! But I especially hope to be here to see everyone's reactions to the above and to experience it all with you! How well-received will the Switch 2 and the next Animal Crossing game be? How many new members will the latter bring in? How many of them will still be around in 2034? What will the forum events between now and then entail? How many new collectibles will there be? How many collectibles that are around now will be hard to get then?

I have so many questions and hopes for future TBTers, but my biggest hope is that I and my wonderful friends are still among them. But if we're not, whether we're all gone or they're gone and I'm still here, I hope future TBTers will still get to see how amazing, kind, and funny they were. I hope future TBTers will stumble upon my old friends' posts and know how cool they were and how special their presence was. I hope they'll stumble upon my old posts and know how much I loved my friends and my cats. I hope all our presences are still felt here, even if we're no longer active here, the same way that TBTers from the past's presences are. I hope future TBTers find comfort and friendship here the same way we all do. <3

Future TBTers, it's an honour to have shared this community with you, even if not at the same time. I hope you are all happy and well. :]

With love always,
Xara

P.S. have we gotten a Pietro collectible yet?
P.P.S check my inventory... if there isn't a crescent-moon glow wand in there... please send thoughts and prayers...

Dear Future TBT,

Is Rosch still active? Is he still participating on the events? Did he provide help and guides for the new main AC games to fellow TBT users like he did whenever a new update dropped for AC: New Horizons? No? Well, I trust TBT never runs out of thoughtful people ready to help others.

Can we arrange collectibles in any order now? Or are we still stuck with the date order? Are there more themes to choose from?

How's Camp TBT and the TBT Fair? Where have you all been to? Let me list down the themes and check if you've done this -- Wild West, steampunk, mystery/noir/crime solving, farming, prehistoric, medieval, futuristic, or all three of them with time travel? Are mirrors way more absurd now? How bout counting stuff inside bottles? What kinds of weird things have been put in them? How 'bout Egg Hunts? Nah. I'm sure this past decade most users still have a love-hate relationship with it.

Are most of the staff new? Well regardless, I know TBT is always in good hands. Just look! It's 2034 and this forum's still thriving, I hope.

Well, I wish everyone who reads this a wonderful and magnificent day! And here's hoping that TBT continues on for another decade or so.

Dear Future TBT,

Hello 2034!!! If you are reading this, then TBT is still up and running, YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Back when I wrote this, we were celebrating the 20 year birthday anniversary of TBT. There are so many things I’d like to ask and share. Oh my where to start?

First of all, if I am still active here, then I will have been a member of tbt for 21 years. That’s a lonnnnnng time lol! (Do people even still say lol in 2034???)

How is the forum doing? Are we still having numerous amazing events like the fair, and camp, and Halloween carnivals, and the WC, and (the dreaded) egg hunts? Is The Woods still alive? How are the new collectibles? Have they implemented a rotating lineup yet? (That would be AMAZING!!!) How is our staff doing? Have they all met up and taken a cruise together yet??? (They REALLY need a break after this year’s year of crazy amount of events!)

I have to assume a new animal crossing has been made by now. Maybe shipwrecked, lost horizons? Where we start on a cruise ship with a bunch of villagers and have to salvage stuff to use on the island that we ended up on? I think that would be kinda fun.

I hope this letter finds all of you well and I hope to see some familiar faces still here in 2034!

Xoxo!

dear future tbt,

can you believe it?? they finally caved and made a bob collectible and i'm giving away a bunch in my thread that you can find here:

nah but on the real i hope you're able to find a lot out of joy out of this forum like i have these last twenty years

i went away for a bit but i'm more than happy to be back cause the community is as nice as ever and i hope you feel that embrace that i have

i came to farm bells in new leaf and i stayed for the homies and vibes
maybe you'll need help in the next animal crossing game and i'll be there to host you in my town cause they remade animal crossing for the game cube in HD and we can meet by my golden statue cause i just finish paying off my house and apollo just told me he hopes i get stung by 1,000 bees and i need some company right now

anyway, i'll see you around
sincerely, tbt's best thighs

Dear TBT,

10 years is a really long time and im a bit scared by the uncertainties of our lifes and of what the future will have in store for us. I hope we're all still here and have a lot of fun and hopefully our community keeps being welcoming and friendly and many new members join in. Playing Animal Crossing together, chatting, gaming, enjoying the fun and creative events, thanks to all staff members that keep the forum going. <3
I'm looking forward to another 10 years with you!

Dear future TBT,

How strong is the site going? I hope it’s just as active if not more. It’s kind of hard to predict 10 years in the future. 10 years ago would’ve been 2014 and I didn’t even know this place existed and it would’ve been 3 years later before I even registered. I was still in school!

New Leaf would’ve been out for 1 year, 2 if going by Japan’s release. I’m sure it was very active back then. I can only imagine how. I hope to see that kind of activity happen if and when Nintendo decides to release another Animal Crossing. They have 10 years before this message to make it happen and hopefully it is a definitive version.

Seeing the trailer for AC 2019 was so great after there was such a lull between titles. I still remember how excited I was at the end of the direct. Isabelle for smash and then Nook giving us the news! Wow! It turned out to be a fun game, when it did finally release in 2020, but I hope to never see another entry released incomplete and the way Nintendo handled it.

I’m not sure what will happen. 10 years is a good chunk of time. It would be amazing if I was still an active member, I was keeping in touch with all of my friends (love you all!) and everyone on the forum, and events were still a thing. They’re a lot of fun and all of the staff put so much of their heart and time to make them memorable and special! I still remember the 2021 team events fondly! I was nervous about joining, but I’m glad I did!

Thank you staff and all the members for making this forum what it is today. I hope we can all continue to enjoy our time together on the forum for many years to come!

-Blue-
