So, I wanted to vent a little, but also I am very passionate for my island, so I don't want to just throw it on the dirt. I guess this a thread for comparing pro and cons of your island.
Mine:
Cons:
- I really don't like my river mouths. It's left and bottom, and it always get on my way of doing stuff, I wish the left one was at least lower and I didn't have a bottom but a right one.
- My Resident Services is in such an awkward position. I can't make it look like the "center piece" because I can't make a good pathway too it. It's too far up and too far to the right.
- The right beaches barely have any space.
Pros:
- I love that my airplane is blue.
- I generally love the fantasy vibe I am going for, it feels like a place I would like to live and it feels fun to run around.
- My peninsula is big, it can fit a house. It opens a lot of options.
tbh to me the only problem with my island is the fact that the airport is yellow and i wanted blue
other than that, i love every part of my island although it's pretty basic compared to other islands i've seen on youtube, pinterest etc
but the fact that i went from nothing to having so many adorable areas makes me so proud of what i have made ♡
so vv
cons: airport
pros: legit everything i've created lol
Pros:
My game is probably self-aware I'm putting a lore in my island that every villager that I put connections to interacts to the point of?? omg? it's like it's real..
Apol twees
comfy
Everything else
Cons:
Not island related but, terraforming is my enemy and if it only had a tangible form I'd beat it up with a broom.
Pros
- I'm happy that I can fit most of my ideas on to my island, although it is a bit cramped
- Great NM items in kiosk, I pretty much don't need to ask anyone for anything
- I've learned to love flowers in this game (I had none in NL cause I hated them)
Cons
- spent forever making a library for my villagers who love to read, no one wants to go there
- I have a river connection that connects 3 rivers (like a triangle), it looks nice but the land is an awkward shape and super hard to use
-Not enough space to make new creations
Pros:
-(most of) my villagers! (i'm planning on moving a few out but for the most part they're amazing!)
-I really like my boardwalk/entrance area so far, and i've barely done anything other than set up the paths/bridges, which gives me a lot of hope for the future!
-the name and vibe so far. there's not a lot but i just love my island lol
Cons:
-I kind of destroyed most of my rivers and haven't had a ton of motivation to terraform further so it's a total mess right now lol
-i got pears and pansies as natives. not bad, and i've learned to like pears, but not my favorite. pansies are just everywhere though and they'll never stop aghh
-I initially placed my shops/museum/houses in assorted areas to make it more interesting, but now it's just led to me having to move stuff everywhere.
overall all of the cons aren't that bad, especially considering that i can replace fruit and get more money out of it and non native flowers are super easy to get now.
Love:
- My layout. I reset 20 hours to get a blue airport, peaches and the Resident Services door aligned with the airport dock. I also have a west river exit which gives me a lot of space to work with.
- My villagers. They're all wonderful and I love my current group of 10. I couldn't imagine my island without any of them.
- That it's my own to share with friends. It's really my space to just relax and hang out with the villagers.
Hate:
- Resident services is close to airport. It's a little close which some see as a con and I wish it was a little further back but I've made it work.
- Small ocean rocks. My old island had huge ocean rocks which were great to landscape on. This wasn't something I cared about when resetting so it's minor.
- Ugly peninsula shape. It's not the nice round one I had on my previous island so it's extremely awkward to find a purpose for it that I like.
Pros: New and fun layout with some quirks I haven't seen before, one of my favorite fruits and flowers, had amazing starter villagers...
Cons: My peninsula was too small for my campsite which bummed me out a little but I worked something out, my river has some awkward spots but I can change that later, my beach has a few sections where you can walk but it's like literally one block wide and you're practically hugging the shore line when you walk there so it looks weird.
Overall: Still loving this new town, flaws and all. Might terraform the river a tiny bit (when I get to that point) but gonna keep it pretty natural.
- my paths look nice and not too messy
- the location of my airport and rs
- perfect cliff location for shopping district
hate:
- feels small compared to other maps
- wonky rivers that made it hard to put bridges where i wanted them
- airport colour isn’t all that sexy but it’s not bad
Love
– Lucky villagers!
– I quite like how well the foresty/flowery theme turned out.
– Museum, marketplace and neighbourhood!
Cons
– RS is literally 5 tiles from the airport entrance. I've managed to just make something out of it though.
– Orange airport
– I have a ridiculous amount of normal and hybrid flowers on my beach. My own fault for stealing so many from tours and overwatering my hybrids lol
Cons:
× My north west beach is kinda isolated as my western river mouth is a little high up + I terraformed a big cliff over there. Can work with it though!
× Can't seem to have non chunky cliffs. I love quaint little islands with cozy corners nestled against small cliffs but I can't seem to make it work in my town... I always do big chunks otherwise I get confused design wise haha
× Cherry is growing on me more and more and more but she has her starter house and it makes my heart cry.
Pros:
✓ Very happy with my initial map and current layout, native mums and oranges (it was the one fruit I didn't want, but after hours of resetting, knowing I could massively plant all of the others fruits and make big profit, I rolled with it and I actually love it now)
✓ Super happy with my villagers and our relationship development! (For most of them)
✓ Overall pretty happy with everything hehe It's slowly taking shape. I'm working on my rural neighborhood and a stargazing area and both are looking really nice so far
Cons:
- Hated my river and south river mouths since they cut up so much of my island.
- Awkward Resident Services too, idk what to do with my entrance since it's so close.
- Weird small beach sizes
Pros:
- Terraformed my river out and now I have lots of space
- Blue airport!
- My villagers! I love them all
Everything is symmetrical. That is something that is very soothing to me. The residential services building is perfectly centered horizontally on my island.
The cinque terre inspired cliffside town in the southwestern section of my map. I continue to add small details here and there but I am really loving how it has come together. I have not seen anybody else create something exactly like it, either, so that makes me feel pretty proud of the idea.
The entrance plaza. I wish I could have had the RS building perfectly line up with the airport, but I made it work. I think it blends really seamlessly with the brick, and it feels both open and sophisticated coming right out of the airport. The distance is very short but it feels really breathable. Most of my villagers are there for most of the day, too, so that's convenient.
Cons:
I wish I could have had a western/southern river mouth combination (I am making it work, though).
I wish I had cared more about where the rocks were located. I wanted them all out of the way, when I was resetting for a map, but I now see how useful they can be. All of mine are at the northernmost bits of my island. I'm sure I will figure it out, though.
Orange airport. Orange is my least favorite color, although at least I don't have the green one. I love green, but that particular shade makes me feel kind of nauseous. I can live with orange, too. At least it stands out nicely as a contrast to the blue! I would have preferred yellow.
Pros: Cherries, West and Southeast Rivermouths, My Villagers
Cons: Green Airport (I didn't think to reset for Blue or Orange because I was so excited about my native fruit which turned out to not matter much in the end)...and that's really it. I love how my secret beach is dead center....I love how my airport entrance is exactly right of the plaza...oh man, I'm dipping into pros again!
I was just thinking about the glitched tree problem, and online trading in general. I realized my plaza works wonderfully for sealing off strangers when inviting people over for trades. My roads are already blocked off with a mixture of trees, bushes and fences, so it works out really nicely!
Love:
1. The river mouths. They are prefectly symmetrical: in the east and one in the west all facing toward the front.
2. My native fruit. I have the orange and love oranges!
3. My downtown. All the important buildings are close together so its easier to traverse.
Hate:
1. A few villagers that refuse to move out! They know who they are *cough Boone, Fuchsia cough* and its been FOREVER since I saw a thought bubble for moving.
2. Nothing else really...Other than villagers I'm very laidback when it comes to this game haha
