I mentioned this in another thread, but there is nothing wrong with time traveling. You play the game how you want to that makes you feel good. As a former Time Traveler myself I know there are things in Animal crossing that take forever and it can really be a pain to wait for it. If you like slow pace then you won't mind, but if you want to get it down faster then time travel is the way to go.

So I've been playing for a few months now. I have unlocked everything, and and building up my island. I have never before time traveled, (Well, in Undertale I did to get the secret boss lol) but, should I? It's more of an inconvenience to wait for buildings to move and stuff. Do you think that would be cheating? And being more of a purist, should I? What are your thoughts?
Whether or not it's "cheating" really just depends on you and how you see the game. If waiting bothers you, then yeah, try time travelling. I think for those of us who TT we each have our own rules/feelings about it. I personnally don't like TTing more than a day, mostly to move buildings. Otherwise I start feeling detached from my villagers and the normal rythm of the game.

You'll see how you feel and what works for you once you try it. Just be mindful of weeds and flowers if you every try TTing far in the future, it can make you want to stop playing when your island is overrun with them.

My rules for myself when it comes to time travelling is that I can only do it for a specific goal.

Such as if I'm moving 4 houses to terraform there.
Or if I'm amiiboing in a villager.
Or if I ran out of snowflakes and don't want to wait until winter to build the items I want.

I won't time travel to do what I consider daily content. This is stuff like rocks and giving gifts.
This ruins the fun of the game in my opinion.
I won't time travel to achieve stuff I just have to wait 1 day for such as mail or building 1 Bridge.

I won't time travel to replay events or do seasonal stuff I missed out on. That will just ruin the season when it comes back around.

When I'm done with time travelling I set my switch back to real time.

I honestly don't care about if people time travel or not or if I time travel or not. I go through phases of needing to time travel for days, for example when I was trying to complete my museum and I just really wanted it done. Orrr when I was decorating my house and I needed loads and loads of orderable furniture. But now I'm slowly building up my island I don't really bother, as it takes me a while to build a location where a villager house is going to be and then when it's ready I just move it there from the beach to enjoy the new area the very next day. ^^ If my builds are going faster or if I need to demolish a load of stuff I might timetravel again... Meh, it reallyy doesn't matter. Animal Crossing isn't competitive

Yeah! That's exactly what I was thin

Its both fun and risky. I only use it for three reasons, otherwise I dont use it at all

First off, you are not a bad person in anyway if you time travel, its simply how you prefer to play, and that's perfectly fine. I time travel to gain friendship, skip the three days to get my new villager completely moved in, and of course to cycle villagers in for people

It does have benefits, defintly, like how you can get more done if you want to speed things aalong.such as if you are to get a new island, you can speed the process along, and not have to wait for anything. So, for some people that is a huge plus. You can also remove a villager much quicker by doing so.

You can also obtain the famous *Bedhead hair style* so theres benifts.

However, there are some downsides to time travel, and actually some risks that have to be concidered. First of all, if you plan to skip on months then keep in mind about your villager's birthdays, and other events that you could miss out on for the first time, esspecially if you are a new player like myself

Gaining friendship with your villagers by going to their birthdays is a good idea. Because you'll have a higher chance of getting a photo. They do take into account if you missed their birthday, sometimes even if you reverted back. Esspecially if its in the same month. If you plan to tt the month of a birthday, then make sure its before a villager's birthday, and not past it.

If you have a ceremony offered, then time travel a day and come back, the option will no longer be there. Some events you can return too all the time, but special occasion events you can't. So look up on those events to see if they will be recurring or not.

On top of a birthday, if you time travel for more then a month, you will be guilted by your villagers when you speak to them. However if you reset and go back to your current time they won't remember you left them. This is only if you time skip to thirty days or more.

The final thing is minor, but should be pointed out. Say you ordered a new jacket from the shop, and when you return you expect it to be in the mail but it wont be. Because the game already registered you have been on in that day. You'll have to wait, or go to the next day to get your new jacket.

In the end no one should judge someone who does it, and if they do try not to listen. Its got its ups, and down sides. But keep in mind the risks I mentioned. Its not my favorite, but its a good short cut. Hopefully this helped, and happy time traveling!

I totally agree! It is a bit risky, but could pay off!

Exactlyyyy I always feel that my personal gameplay of tt and not evens out. I mean it is MY GAME so I’m not too concerned. Just do what you feel you want to and get that awesome bed head 😏😁

Hahaaaaa yes
The funniest thing though is that I didn't even earn my bedhead through time traveling, I went on a several month hiatus after bunny day lol xD

ikr xDDD
I was pretty down about the furniture overhaul in this game too,but this was before the awesome summer update furniture, and before I learned how to decorate with the new stuff.

Time travel in Animal Crossing is by no means cheating, just not the intended way of playing in the eyes of the developers. If it wasn't suppose to be allowed/considered cheating, the developers would have added anti-time travel measures to make sure they never happen.

But as others have mentioned, the weeds aren't too bad. It is the flowers. Those things grow more than weeds, I swear.

If you've done everything you can do in your eyes, don't feel bad just for making things you want to do happen a little sooner. When I was redoing my island, I chose not to time travel because I don't personally enjoy doing it... but geez, it isn't fun waiting a week and a half. Its all personal preference and opinion in the end.

To be fair they kind of have.
Turnips rot if you go back in time at all and turnip prices change if you travel back in time.
They have been time locking events to stop people time travelling to do them and get the items.
They nerfed interest rates incredibly hard when people started time travelling to make lots of bells fast.

Its not really something they could ever stop completely though because for some reason your in game clock could need to be changed. Or if you changed it for a different game and forgot to change it back. I can't think of a way that they could make time travel impossible without harming players indirectly. People should be able to change the clock on their console without fear of ruining their game after all.

But it does seem like they try to disincentivise people from doing it.

I'm not trying to say that time travelling is a bad thing at all. In fact I'm doing it right now.

I honestly don't count those, except the time-gated 'events.' That one's kinda iffy.

No, TTing isn't cheating. That said, players who TT a lot seem to burn out on the game more quickly. You could probably "finish" the game in a few hours instead of a month or so with normal play.

I'm sort of a purist too, but even I've occasionally TT'd if I missed an event or something. It's not a big deal.
