I noticed that in the ABD there is a part that says "protected from theft". I just want to know what "theft" is. Is it a feature of the site where you can invest your bells but with a risk of loss? That sounds kind of interesting but I just want to know before I put anything in there.

I think in older versions of this site, other users could steal bells from your ABD, but I'm not an older member, so I don't know what this means.

But I can say this much. Even if nobody can steal your TBT Bells from the site's ABD, the staff can take away all of your TBT Bells stored in the ABD (as well as what's not stored) if you sold duped or hacked AC items for TBT Bells, or if you abused the Bell system in other ways.
