So I just watched the Animal Crossing film last night and as I was watching I was looking for signs on why it never came to any other countries. The main thing I was looking for was scenes with way to much Japanese Cultural references in them which I found none. So why do you think Nintendo never released this film in any other country?
i think at the time of release of the animal crossing movie animal crossing wasn't as popular as it is now, therefore it hasn't been released outside of japan or gotten a non-japanese dub. it would be nice if it got a subbed released as a collectible or something!
That makes perfect sense according to Vgchartz (http://www.vgchartz.com/game/82/animal-crossing-wild-world/) only 2.50 million copies were sold which is still quite a bit. I dunno, maybe it wasn't big enough to get a theater release but it still could have got a Blu-Ray release or even air it on something like the Disney channel.
I think it may be possible Nintendo thought the film would be received in the same light as the Super Mario Bros movie,or.. they just didn't feel it would be worth the investment. Likewise, the franchise was young.
It's a shame, really. Much worse films get dubbed, without a huge franchise behind them.
But I guess the movie is too specific for a non-AC fan to understand / be entertained by.
(Much like the Phoenix Wright movie, you'll only enjoy it if you know it.)
I'm guessing it's because Animal Crossing definitely wasn't as popular in the U.S. and Europe as it is now. Also, it had a pretty long runtime so I'm guessing they didn't think it would appeal to the intended demographic.
It had a runtime of about 1 hour 27 mins I don't think that was to terribly long for a kids movie. But I see where you are coming from but on the same token, this would have probably came out in another country around 2008. This was before people's attention spans shrunk.
