Adult does not automatically equal Mature

I think so far everyone on my friends list is an adult. I don't have an issue with anyone visiting my town based on age so long as they don't ruin it.

I completely agree that "adult" does not necessarily mean "mature". The same way that "child" does not necessarily mean "immature".

It goes both ways in both cases. The best way to prevent incidence is to make sure you lay out your ground rules before playing. Offer to give a tour instead of letting people run around like crazy. This way you can keep a better eye on things.

Of course even with precautionary measures things can still happen. I suggest instead of trying to fill your friend roster with as many people as you can, fill it with people who you can begin to trust.

I can see why older gamers are a little uncomfortable playing with much younger players. Once I asked for help on a section of Lord of the Rings Online. Once you're in a "fellowship" with a player, you can do voice chat-- this kid couldn't have been older than 7. It was very, very awkward. -_-u

I don't mind if some people want to only add people their own age,but I kinda hurts when I want to try to be friends with someone and they wont let me because I'm only a teen e.o

My only restriction on having people visit my town is that they have to be respectful, don't take stuff without asking and don't trample my flowers.

It's a pretty weird situation to trust someone you don't know to visit your town and behave appropriately and there is always the risk that someone may break that trust, so IMO it's perfectly understandable that some people don't wish to play online with younger players. It's not a personal thing, just a precaution that they feel they need to take. There's plenty of people that don't mind playing online with any ages so just play with those people instead.

I'm too afraid to let anybody into my town, of any age. ._.; I'd really like friends, but you just don't know who you can trust online, you know? I let one person into my town and was having an anxiety attack the entire time hoping they don't trample/steal flowers or chop down my trees or net my villagers!

Then you probably just dont need to play online

In my own opinion, it's kinda creepy for an adult to play animal crossing with an under aged kid.

Then again, I'm not sure of the age of some of the people I've added on my friend list >.>

I'm 20 an I met a 13 year old kid in Club Tortimer, we talked about Final Fantasy and other RPGs and decided to exchange friendcodes so that we can battle each other on Kid Icarus: Uprising.
I don't see what's so creepy about that.

Also, the fact that the adult's town mentioned was so vulgar is probably the reason they didn't want children in their town. Besides catchphrases, who knows what else is discussed and how obscene it might be. I think it's the right thing to do if you know your tastes aren't exactly kid-friendly. The new feature in NL solves the naughty catchphrase/greeting problem, it's a shame it wasn't implemented in the previous AC titles.

As long as the person doesn't jack up my town, I'm fine with any age. I'm not much of a talker, anyways.

I am the same way about being talkative. I'm fine with in game issues and questions, but I prefer if you want to have a full non game related conversation with me, then on the pc and internet is much better for that than in game.

You can get your residents to change their catchphrases. Go to the town hall and talk to Isabelle across the counter (rather than at the mayor desk). Tell her there is a problem resident and she will ask you if they are saying something offensive, have offensive letters, or offensive clothes (I think those are the choices, anyway).

This... Just tell Isabelle the villager is using "naughty" language

EDIT:

What the heck?!? Net your villagers? You really get into these games. This isn't real life... Netting a villager (online) will do nothing

I always always give a warning when coming to my town...mature audiences only..hence the signature...i mean my town is called my butt lol, because in me and my friends towns we get a little too referencey lol, but we are just having fun on our games...but again i always give warning

i have had many adults come to my town...and cause havoc...i never do anything important while i have visitors and im always quick to flip the wifi switch

There have been adults that have come to my town and stolen my hybrids, trampled my flowers, taken my fruits without asking, etc... :/

Even so, I'd rather not interact with younger players unless it is to do a trade of some sort. It's not that I don't trust younger players, it's just that as an adult I don't feel like I would have much in common with a kid. Though then again, I've met some 14 year olds that are very mature for their age. So even though I'd rather interact with people my age, I won't reject a youngster just because of their age.

For me it's a comfort thing. I'm not comfortable adding someone under aged who I don't know well, I think it doesn't look appropriate to their parents. However, if it's someone I've gotten to know and who I get along with, as long as their parents don't mind I have no issue with their age.

This too!

Thank you. I'm 15 years old, and I know how to reason and treat others and their towns just as politely as any adult, so it's a bit sad that people wish to not include me just because I'm a few years younger.
