Well, whenever someone orders a coffee, they will only tell you one ingredient. (as in how much sugar, milk or kind of coffee). I never seem to get the other 2 ingredients right. Am I the only one? Am I just a loser at making coffee? XD

me too
the only way is talking to them when they're at the cafeteria and writing somewhere their preferences
it's a really long work so I use a guide instead

EDIT: I use extcly that one above!

I use the guide as well, its very helpful.
Also if you have a smart phone you can download the ACNL guide app and it has a list of all the characters and villagers and tells you how they have their coffee.

I dont use the guide.. i try the combinations and write them down till i have all of one villager

I use the AC:NL app. Used to use the guide from Thonky.com, but since the app has come out on Android (also on iOS), been using that. Saves time from having to remember everything. With villagers, the milk and sugar amounts are the same (i.e.: 1 milk, 1 spoonful sugar). Same rule doesn't apply with special characters, since the milk and sugar amounts can vary (i.e.: 1 milk, no sugar).

I don't see why people use the guide :/ I swear half the fun is trying different combos and working it out! Much more satisfying that way :)

dont know if it posted but villagers say different items a time so if u write them on a paper u will have them all!

Idk how one could even successfully work at the cafe without that guide. I had villagers come in for the very first time and ask for the usual.

"Umm, Bones, I never served you freakin coffee. I don't know what the heck you want."

sometimes it's impossible, when Aurora moved in she asked for the usual, and I'd never served her before -.- no hints or anything.

Not for most. Plus, I myself have a horrible memory, so there's no way I could remember exactly what they want each time. Especially for the random villagers that are mixed in with your regular residents.

Pretty sure everyone just uses the guide

I don't...I keep cards and when they tell me what they like, I write it down. Something else, they will tell you another ingredient if you catch them sitting at the counter. You just need to keep talking and they will eventually tell you one. They won't give you another during that session, but if you catch them enough times, you eventually get it. Also, I have found, as someone else has already said, that the milk and sugar are balance (in most cases, although this does not work with the special NPCs). In other words, if they like a little milk, they will prefer 1 sugar. If they like 3 sugars, they will prefer lots of milk.

I use the note-writing feature on the 3DS to write down my obtained ingredients for each character. I prefer not to use the guide, since it takes the fun out of it. :)

Well you could write it down? I had fun guessing and figuring out their coffee, but each to their own I guess :p

It takes time without the guide. You can figure out their favorite drinks by talking to the villagers when they are sitting down at the cafe. Plus, the first time you take their order they will tell you something that they want. When you get it wrong, they will let you know.

It's mostly memory, but the easiest part is remembering villagers drinks. The more difficult ones are the special characters.

ALL of the villagers like the same amount of sugar and milk in their coffee. So if they ask for 2 spoons of sugar, add some (more than a bit, but less than a lot) milk. If they ask for a lot of milk, 3 lumps of sugar. etc. the only thing you have to remember is their preferred coffee beans and a number.

Special characters, of course, are an exception to this rule and are more challenging as their orders are a lot more scattered in the amounts of sugar and milk they want.
