Animal Crossing Veterans - what is new horizons missing?

They still do ask for things just not as often thank goodness.
For me it’s very rare that they ask for anything. I miss the option of asking if they needed anything. There should be a balance between them asking for something all the time and rarely asking for something.

Same here. Doesn't matter how much I talk to them during the day and or if I talk to them every day. They usually don't ask for any chores. Although NH limited the types you can do for them, I still don't get asked to do anything.

They also never ask to do the treasure hunt. Not really my favorite mini-game, but they used to ask all the time during launch and now it's like it might as well not exist.

I do wonder why they choose to limit tasks for villagers since it was one of my favorite things. Trying to help your villagers out. I love the decorating but would have been better if there was more of a balance between decorating and villager interactions.

Yea treasure hunt isn’t my favorite either but at least it was something. Yea I definitely got asked a lot in the beginning and now can’t even remember the last time I was asked.

Getting a little off topic, but I've noticed that I also haven't seen my villagers talking to each other at all. They were doing it every other 5 minutes when I first started, but now I rarely see them. And when I do, it's never a real conversation and just a means for them to steal the others catchphrase. So they're usually shorter than the actual duo conversations. I'm not sure if they changed the rng with the last update, because that's when I started to notice it.

I wouldn’t mind them asking for things if it meant they don’t display it in their houses. Like if i walk into your house i don’t want to see some giant sea bass taking up most of the room. I hate it lol

Although I did love asking them for tasks! That was fun and I wish that was implemented as a way to gain friendship levels.

Yea I definitely wish they wouldn’t display things we give them. I believe once you finish the DLC and can change villagers houses that changes. I believe they stop placing gifted items in their house after you redecorate their house.

I think the thing that New Horizons is missing is that intangible element which creates an emotional attachment to something. Some people call that element soul.Overall,I'd say that it's a better game than it's predecessor,New Leaf but it doesn't give me the same emotional bond that New Leaf did.

To me, that part would be progression. You can definitely progress your island by decorating it more, but it lacks a more in-depth feeling where villagers would acknowledge the success, watching all the different shops expand, buildings popping up after certain achievements were hit, and in NL the plaza tree growing. To me that had a more personal feel to it.

To some extent I get the progression argument, but on the other hand I'm immensely frustrated by it purely on account of the idea that an Animal Crossing village is supposed to grow into a bustling metropolis full of shops, rather than it being a sleepy little piece of nothing that travelling traders visit at best. One is charming and incites you to engage with the game on a daily basis to see what's happening in the village (even if it's Label coming to do a fashion test), the other's basically just "wake up, go and check all the shops, nope, I'm still getting the same items again, aite I'm done here" and makes me feel that there's nothing else outside the village aside from the endless desert Saharah's from at best.

its missing the availability to craft/buy a number of items at the same time. for instance; when im in able sisters and shes selling all colors of the same item and i want them all, it takes AGES to put one item on, go out of the room and go back in. this includes the other items from other shops as well. in crafting i want to make 5 shovels but i have to make 5 flimsy then 5 shovels Then five in gold *if i have the gold to make them*. takes ages! same with leif, and retail and kicks etc etc.
also missing storage to put flowers and trees! right now im running around with 10 trees just because im trying to grow things on my island, and move them around and yep...10 trees in my pockets that i have to carry with me endlessly until ive decided where to put them LOL
i could go on and on about missing furniture as well...but i figure thats been covered

Since moving on to a new game after getting bored with New Horizons I can see the game's true potential was simply never met especially now we'll never get any new content until a new Animal Crossing game is released in the future. Fans have been voicing their annoyances at the game for some time like wanting bulking buying, bulk crafting, mini games and more dialogue to keep the villagers a little more interesting when interacting with them. That's not to say New Horizons is a bad game though because it's the total opposite and it will forever remain an iconic Animal Crossing game, but there could've been so much more to it outside of just terraforming and decorating to please so many fans that were sadly never met.

Fingers crossed the next Animal Crossing game will right some of the wrongs of New Horizons.

I miss Gracie and the clothes and other exclusive items associated with them. Particularly the Sweets collection. The closest thing we have to it now is the Sanrio Cinnamon Roll and Purin items but they aren’t quite the same.

The 2.0+HHP update did fix most of my issues with the game. It's just really too bad this came so late, because I feel like there's still a lot of players who got bored and never came back even after the update. Basically all of this content should've been there day 1 IMO. Here's my remaining issues with the game:

- Still missing usability aspects. Where is bulk crafting? Where is crafting using materials that's in your storage? Where is bulk buying? Not being able to destroy flowers is nice, but now flowers are a lot harder to deal with when they spread out of control because you have to dig them up. Not having any tools that don't break at all is incredibly frustrating.

- NPCs still don't do enough. Harv's island fixes this somewhat. So does HHP to an even lesser extent. I know you can also use amiibo to call NPCs to Brewster's, but really? Who cares. It's just a few lines of minor dialog. The biggest disappointment is Gracie having no presence at all other than being able to do stuff with her with her amiibo. The visitor NPCs were boring a long, long time ago. Some of those visitors feel outshined by their far superior implementations on Harv's Island. I mean, who even wants to buy from Saharah when she visits our islands anymore? Her store on Harv's island is far better. And, of course, the holidays with NPCs are too far and few between.

The progression thing doesn't really bother me. I can't remember how long it takes to unlock everything in NL. It certainly is longer than NH, of course, by far. But once you get all of the shops and the shop upgrades, there isn't progression in NL anymore either. It's exactly the same, where all you can do is whatever goals you set for yourself. I like the increased customization in NH personally, so if I had to choose between customization and progression, I'd choose customization any day.

I also never cared about the NL mini-games. I was an adult by the time even the Gamecube Animal Crossing game came out. I don't think it's really that fun to just hang out with others and play mini-games. Especially because those NL mini-games, even the most entertaining ones, quickly got boring and overstayed their welcome with the number of times you had to grind them to buy all of the island-only items. Trading items has really been the only online play aspect I care about, and that hasn't changed.

And the dialog thing - sure, they could have more. But even in NL it got extremely repetitive. It was best in the Gamecube game, but that game had some of the least amount of things to do each day so they needed it. I'm also used to video game NPCs being far more repetitive than they ever are in Animal Crossing so... shrug? Talking to the villagers is not why I play the game.

New Horizons is my favorite game in the series simply because of all the diverse character customizations it has. With that said, I will never understand why Nintendo did not add a set of indestructible tools to this game...
This is a big one. Crafting has its pros and cons, but I think overall it's a fun addition to Animal Crossing. But having to recraft your shovel and fishing rod every couple days, or being in the middle of a fishing trip and your rod breaking... yet to meet someone who thinks that's fun. :sneaky:

I have a bit of a weird one. I miss the credit card from City Folk. I get that it was kinda keyed to that aesthetic, but I think it just would have made more sense to have here since they boosted the price of some of the items. They could have maybe tied it to DAL and like...incentivized it with like special prizes or something, I dunno. I just feel like I'm constantly running to an ADB.

The ufo!! and store upgrades.
I like the idea of having an island to go to for special shops but I miss the main street so much

Main street was honestly so much fun, I miss it like crazy, though I think I prefer the city that City Folk had over it. Store upgrades were great too as it gave you more to work for.

Also miss Tortimer's island. Was a lot of fun, and was very cool to have one place stuck in summer as well as the island tours and all that.

I guess for me it's the NPC interaction that honestly bugs me the most. I'm fairly new to the game, but this game seriously lacks the NPC interaction that prior games had. I really feel like it lacks soul honestly, but am still having a great time with it.

One of my biggest issues is I absolutely hate that they removed the museum descriptions for the fossils, bugs and fish when you check the displays. I think it's now you have to show Blathers and he'll tell you more about each of them. It's WAY better just to have the description on the display when you read whatever fossil, bug or fish you have on display. The museum is one of my favourite things in the game and something I love working towards to get the satisfaction of going there after collecting a bunch of creatures, art, fossils, and reading the descriptions.

One thing that I really want but is impossible to do is create a large Waterfall for a Zen garden/mediation spot. I want something that is more than three cliffs high and don’t need this huge pond for water to fall down from or into. I’ve tried to make a waterfall within the limits of the game and it never looks quite right.

Ughhh the npc dialogue!! One of my favourite parts of the game was that my villagers had character. After wild world I felt it got watered down a bit and then completely in this game. I used to have some villagers that were my favourite and that I loved, but now they are all the same to me. I basically will only collect the cutest ones now because they're like ornaments!! There is no depth to their speech. I miss mean villagers!!

And I also miss the soundtrack!! Maybe I'm biased but it seems much more shallow this game. I remember staying up super late when I was a kid just to hear of the tracks they played through the night in the older games.
