I kind of like the grass thing... I've made cool pathes using the grass. I'm still in the process of making more paths but it's going pretty well.

But if I could choose not to have the grass thing I would get rid of it...

whenever you catch a fish or bug out of the river/ ocean, you have no choice but to release it. (once, i caught a diving beatle in in my friend's town with full pockets and i had no choice but to release it, it never asked to even swap with something else. i have never seen one since.)

i have no clue if they are rare, but my friend spotted one by luck in while i was in his town, then i caught it.
