I'm not hating on the concept. I just can't afford it xD Maybe I'll get some as Christmas gifts if people love me but meh. I'm not stoked enough about them to justify spending that much more in addition to the game itself, because I'd also have to buy the amiibo card reader (I has an old 3DS :( )

Anyone else in the same boat?

I would love to buy Amiibo cards, but like you, I have an old 3DS and can't really afford to spend $20 on a card reader in addition to cards. @____@ I might buy cards now and wait a few paychecks to get a card reader, though. I really wish people with old 3DSes could get a complementary one or something... It's kind of ridiculous to have to spend all that extra money tho I'm prolly going to do it someday because I'm hopelessly addicted to animal crossing but w/e

Tbh I only use them for collecting and inviting over... so far I haven't found the need to call them because they are all gonna come on the street anyways.

I just get them because I like the design of them and I like the fact that you can collect them. They're so adorable!

Same here. I would need to buy a card reader thingy and I can't really see myself doing that for one game. SO I will most likely not collect the cards, though I wish I could (I also don't wanna buy them) because I would love to decorate Isabelle's house (she is the one I got with the game).

I bought two packs when I got the game just because the clerk asked if I wanted any.

I got a duplicate between those two cards. Punchy.

So yeah I think I'm done with them. I got the card reader bundle just because the game comes with a card anyway. Though it seems lame that you can only get special characters through the cards, as far as I can tell... I wanna decorate for cousin Redd.

I don't think I will either. My 3Ds doesn't read amiibo cards, so I would need a card reader. And if I were to get that, I would have to wait til Christmas. By then, I'd probably have a majority of the villagers unlocked so there wouldn't really be any point.

I have no plans to buy the amiibo cards. To much money between card reader and cards, especially if you end up with duplicate cards which wastes even more money. Nah, I'll just play the game as is.

Yep but I can't afford the game and a card reader/new ds or the cards sooo I'm just getting my third acnl or something :p

Wow, the NFC is expensive! In UK you could get it with the game, for the same price as buying a game without a reader!

I wasn't planning on getting them.. then went to buy the game today and it was only an extra ?2 for the NFC-Reader pack so I figured I may as well as on it's own it's ?15. So I then bought 2 packs along with it and turns out they are pretty darn cute.. so I might end up getting more depending on how much I enjoy the game :)

Its so good to read this thread. I thought there was something wrong with me because I so quickly stopped using the amiibo cards I bought. Like someone already said... the townies all show up in the village and there is no difference in what you get if you use a card or just meet them in the square. As far as the special characters go, I made houses for a few and they don't bring any new furniture to the table so I lost interest in them.

I spent easily 100$ on collecting the entire first series, but eh. I'm an adult I can do what I want

I'm not going to buy any because I see the cards as a waste of money - this game gives you all the villagers (other than special ones, which don't come with extra items anyway), and while it would be fun to have multiple villagers on one map at a time, that's really all I would use the cards for.

I have a New 3DS, so I don't have to worry about the reader, but the card packs on their own are expensive enough here to make it hard to justify buying a pack. I did buy one yesterday, since my mom paid for half of it, but I probably won't buy many myself.

I hope they drop the price sooner or later. If you check Amazon, there are a bunch of people complaining about the price, so I hope that'll affect it.

I'm trying really hard not to but my compulsion to collect things makes it really hard. I want to. But I'm going to be good.....

..... I'm going to try really hard to be good.

I've got err.. 4 cards? One came with the game and my partner got me a 3-pack too. I honestly hardly use them, at all. So, I don't think I'll be buying any more. :p

If they would have been in stock at the time I bought the game I would have considered buying a pack or two. I do like them, but I don't want them enough to try and buy them above retail price. Plus I don't have a N3DS or a reader so it'd only be for collection purposes. How sad would a collection of a few cards look? :c
