So, we're almost a week in. And i keep brainstorming, how to decorate my island and place things. But i feel a bit overwhelmed because +++mild spoilers start here+++

..i know later we get terraforming and can change pretty much the whole layout. I have yet to decide where to place things and I'm not even sure how/ if I wanna change the layout. So, today I got the residential building unlocked and saw all these cool decorations/ items you can get with miles and I felt so inspired! But then I thought:
what if everything will be in the wrong place and I'll change the whole layout later? Now I'm overwhlemed with all my options. At least I know where my beach bar is supposed to go. And I habe a rough idea WHAT i wanna build, just not where and how lol.
Anyone else feeling the same? Whats your strategy? Will you start creating your ideas before terraforming? Or will you collect items and wait until it's unlocked like me? Any tips how not to get so overwhelmed?

It's hard for me to plan out this early yet. I think once I get terraforming unlocked, I'm just going to figure it out as I go along. I have a few ideas for where I want to put things regardless of how I end up forming my cliffs, and I know I want to clean up my river a bit, but we'll see how things turn out

omg no i am 100% overwhelemed! i also unlocked the res service building and i was like uhhhhhh! only thing i knew i needed was a bridge. I just wish we had pathsa already...i wanna start laying down gardens and walkways but i can't put it all the way into fruition without the landscaping app :(

I feel the same as you, and as Mairen said I think I'm going to go along once I have it unlocked and not do much planning. The only things I know I want for sure is Nook's store and the Museum to be on the 3rd level with nothing else on it, and maybe the campsite as well.

If I had avoided spoilers and not knew about terraforming I wonder how differently I would've done things. I'm glad I know about it otherwise I might still not have a town from doing so much resetting lol.

i'm the same. i had an idea of what i want to do but looking at my town and how things are placed, i have no idea how i wan't to go about any of this. i'm kind of envious of people who've got a huge plan and everything looks good lol, my town looks so hodge-podge.

I'm going to wait until terraforming is unlocked before really worrying myself over my island. I might move my house today, but only because for some reason I looked behind the resident services tent and thought "Yep, this is a great place for my home, nothing could possibly get in the way here." Really brain...why? lol I know a few things I want to do, flatten a few places and kill off some river and just have it pool up at that mouth if I can, to give myself more ground to build on.

I have little to no idea on what I'm planning on doing, and I'm also very overwhelmed by all the freedom @o@ for now I'm gonna do what I would usually do for my house: wait until I stockpile on a bunch of items, get some inspiration and then try to start working on it in large chunks

Maybe once I get access to terraforming I'll feel more motivated to work on my island, but right now it's still fairly barren because I dont want to have to deal with putting a bunch of items down now only to run around and pick them up later if plans change

i am so overwhelmed lol it makes it not even fun anymore bc its stressing me out. i have no idea how i want to change my island. i really want all my villagers plotted where i want them before i do anything else. it feels weird to change the entire island bc then is it really even my island anymore if i modify everything about it? i just don’t know

this is why I'm kind of waiting to do too much. I know I'm going to be making some big changes once I can terraform, and I'd hate to have to spend an entire day clearing up because I put so many things down.

i am overwhelmed, there's so much to do and not enough bells! but i find that making a map and planning out general areas, like where i want my orchid, makes it easier for me since i know where i'm eventually going with my island. i have a link to a map layout planner, but i know that it's not everyone's thing.

Same, I'm so unsure of where things should go. I think this is partly due to only really having access to one area of the island and having to work with it until you've unlocked staircases.

im overwhelmed with the amount of ideas ive come up with, but cant execute. ive been rearranging my trees so often in anticipation for villagers and other things to move near them, but now i want to terraform areas away or add to them but i cant do it yet so i just dont know what to do. and im also conflicted on what i want to do with terraforming; i want to keep my natural island but at the same time, it's very inconvenient to work with!! i could make it work but i wouldnt be doing what i truly want to do.

I feel some of the crafting recipes are overwhelming (Like some recipes call for other furniture items), but I think that's the only thing I feel overwhelmed about.

I'm feeling the same way as you! Terraforming actually intimidates me a little bit. I'm afraid I'm going to start messing with the landscape and everything's going to turn into a giant mess.

I think what helps me feel better is knowing that you don't have to completely change your island! If you only want to terraform small areas that's fine! If you want to go crazy and change the entire layout that's cool too! It's all up to you. And if you end up not liking the changes you make you can always move things around again. Just take it at your own pace and remember it's not a competition! You don't have to have a super intricately designed island just because some people do!

Not overwhelmed. In fact, I'm looking forward to getting access to terraforming because I'm tired of seeing perfect spots for bridges, but then the game won't let me put a bridge there because the land is shaped slightly wrong.

I haven't figured out what I want to do with my island at all yet, but it's still early days. My primary goal right now is to unlock stuff and see what my choices are, then let that inspire me.

Here’s my map and I really have no clue what to do because I’m already in love with this layout. The museum Id like to change for sure but no idea where to. And I want like all my villagers houses in the same area I think

Personally I'm gonna keep my map the way it is, maybe terraform a bit if something doesn't quite fit right but for the most part I really like my map. I can see how it can be overwhelming though! There are so many opportunities for cool maps it's hard for me to even wrap my mind around it!

I really started thinking about landscaping the other day, and where I want my fruit orchard, where I want villagers, etc. and because I'm not yet able to work with any of the later game unlocks yet, I've felt limited. One thing I really love is we can move trees around, and destroy rocks if they're inconvenient to us.

For now I'm trying to start a small orchard, that I can hopefully expand later. I've not even started thinking about the possibility of terraforming, as I don't know where I would start or if I'd want to do something (I know future me will want to do so much, but-)

It's stressful, and a bit overwhelming, being given so much freedom to do what you want, but I love it.

I have terraforming unlocked and its very tedious.. It is overwhelming but i’m happy enough with how I did things for the time being. I left room for lots of new shops if they ever get added.
