They're alright if you like turn based strategy.

I would probably say go with Awakening if you're gonna pick any of them up. It's got a lot in there that makes it 'newbie friendly', it's not difficult to find and it looks nice even for a 3DS game.

Or The Blazing Blade (or the 'first one released in the West', probably just called 'Fire Emblem' on the eShop) because it was my first and I'm biased.

heroes is easy to pick up. if you play that and are interested in seeing an expansion in the concept in battles, supports, skills and items, play other fire emblem games. i don't recommend fe 1-5 to start with (even though fe4 is my favorite game of all time)
sacred stones (fe8) is great. people see it as a downside that it's quite easy but i see it as a game where you can win with any team, trying lots of different ones each time you play. any of the gba titles are good.
awakening (fe13) is also a good game to start with. it's a new beginning, definitely suited for people who want to start fire emblem. maps have a simple objective.
if you're interested in an older game but want to play a better version of the sort, go for echoes

definitely, theyre really fun + have amazing storylines, i've not gotten too deep myself but i'm one of the basic ppl who really loves fates. awakening is great too but yea these other ppl are the experts here not me so LMAOO

I really like Awakening and Heroes, so I would definitely recommend jumping into one of those. Echoes and Fates didn’t really hold my interest, Fates because of plot holes and just general annoyances with it while Echoes is just slow.

I am not usually interested in games with grid style maps to battle in, but I really liked Awakening and Fates because of the funny support conversations the different units could have together. I am a terrible tactician who plans battle movements by seeing how many characters can support each other at once instead of planning where they would actually be effective. Casual mode is my friend since I accidently lose people a lot.

I personally find the series overrated af and have a grudge against Sakurai/Nintendo for their insanely generous treatment of the franchise as of late. If you like turn based strategy it may be a good series for you. I don't like it or the waifu/husbando-spam - but to each his own.

The husband/waifu thing is what tecnically saved the series. If you don't like it, try the older games.

its only husbando-waifu spam if you make it like that

Q: Are the Fire Emblem series worth playing?

A: The Fire Emblem series is a series worth playing. At least... in my opinion. The support conversations can be pretty interesting. If you're still unsure if the series is worth your interest then I would highly recommend watching some game-play videos of them. I'm not sure which Fire Emblem game you should start with first, but Fire Emblem Heroes is a (mobile) game that is easy to get through and has the most Fire Emblem characters. The game I start with first was Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for the Nintendo GameCube. Plus the only Fire Emblem games I've played are: Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (GBA), Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GC), Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii), and Fire Emblem Heroes (Mobile Game). Hopefully... You'll give the Fire Emblem series a try if you haven't already. ^ . ^
